Is this normal? I had the fan on but did not have a/c on. I have about 4 hours to drive tomorrow and I’m nervous! The car had about 500 miles on it now. Thanks for your help!

I'm a little embarrassed to respond, but we were a bit dismayed by how loud the fan mode was. We kept saying, "This car is amazingly quiet, unless the fan is running". Then, (here's the part where I admit to being dimly aware of anything, and/or everything) I noticed there is a roller knob on each fan outlet. The factory setting is for the roller knob to be in the closed position, which means it exactly matches the black background of the fan trim. It was pretty much invisible (Announcer: "She claimed, as a lame excuse"). Once I adjusted the roller knob, the fan noise went away. Derp. I am not suggesting this, in any way, may be similar to your experience. Just thought I'd chime in.

I wouldn’t be embarrassed! We didn’t notice until like the third day that they weren’t open. Although while my husband and I were listening for the noise, I noticed a big delay on air coming from the vents from turning it on or turning it up. I was expecting it to be an immediate blast of air and was surprised it look a couple of seconds. I haven’t needed to use the heat, but when we turned it on and turned off the defrost, the sound seemed to go away.

That sounds like the A/C compressor running to me. Normal. It will change pitch as it adjusts speed. It will run even if you have it turned off if you are using defrost or if the battery needs to be cooled. Be advised the car will make strange whirring noises when the heat or A/C for the cabin or battery is running.

Thank you! I was hoping it was just a normal sound. Maybe I’m just not used to hearing the compressor, as all my other cars the engine was probably over powering the noise! After posting, I noticed I never changed any of the heat/ac settings and the defrost was on. I tried the heat without defrost and it seemed to go away.

Oh, that's taken from outside with the hood up? Ya, that's normal (or at least what mine sounds like in the same situation). Inside, it shouldn't be anywhere near as grating (I can barely hear the compressor over the gentle woosh of the fans).

Ford builds these nice looking cars that are almost silent then go and put in what sounds like the last $12 radiator fan Autozone had in the display window for the last 7 years!

Agreed! It doesn’t sound like that inside. I was showing a co worker the frunk when I noticed it. Thanks!
