For most of my life I never experienced a flat tire of any kind. Recent years have changed that. And rarely have they been something I could repair with that kit in the Mach E.

* An allen wrench left a quarter size hole in the tread.

* A tent stake left a quarter size hole in the tread.

* The doozy - A Tire Iron went into the tread and out the side wall of the tire. The underside of the car bent the tire iron 90 degrees. Amazingly, it didn't really damage the car. This was a mini-van.

In all of these cases, I had a spare. In 20 minutes max I was back on the road.

We were taking a long road trip with the Mach E. I bought the Modern Spare kit. I just couldn't take the chance on not having a spare.

You are right - I'll adjust my statement from "most" to "some". I think most states don't have this requirement. Maryland does. It is a requirement here in Ontario to pass a safety check. The tire sealant even has to be within the expiry date (hence why it has one).
Just bought a new 2026 MME in Ontario with no spare and no tire repair kit. I don’t see anything in the Ontario MTO safety Inspection guide about a requirement for one or the other. Could you point out where this is documented so I can have a discussion about it with the dealer.

I'm still disappointed that they have not developed a way to have a spare. I won't use our Mach E for out of town trips that we must arrive semi-ontime. We had a flat on a Saturday morning and had to wait until Tuesday for a new tire. Costs can be quite high with loss of non-refundable airfares, hotels, and events.

Me too. I would be happy to buy my own if there were a mounting system: something that would allow me to secure the thing.

It's not that they haven't developed a way to have a spare. It's that it was consciously deleted from pretty much the entire lineup (for pretty much all manufacturers) for fuel economy reasons. As others have mentioned, there is an aftermarket company that sells spares for a variety of cars. 🤔🐩

My 2022 came with the kit. If your 2026 didn't come with one, it's quite possible they changed the rules. About 4 years ago, I had a discussion with my mechanic while getting my Jeep certified. I didn't have the spare on the back, and he showed me the Ontario safety checklist form that said there needed to be a spare tire or a seal/inflation kit onboard. I had to go home and get the spare tire.
