Hi all-

I had a tear in the felt-like floor pan splash shield under the car. A flap of the felt hung down at the tear. This is under the frunk to direct water and debris away from the floor pan. Ford Part LJ8Z5811782C.

I stitched/spliced together the tear. During the process I noticed there is a lot of dirt and debris that is being held by the splash shield.

I live in a rural area, so dust and dirt on the undercarriage is part of owning a vehicle here.

I can see where the shield can hold moisture, not allow it to drain away quickly, and give damp conditions for steel to corrode. Removing it could allow access to better wash the undercarriage and blast away dirt and salts.

Any thoughts on damaged shield removal vs. replacing it? I can't seem to find any threads on this topic, so I thought I'd ask...

Thanks -

It serves an aerodynamic role and also protects the front of the battery pack from debris, so I would leave it. Take it off and wash it once a year if you’re concerned.

@machbrink, I also live in a rural area (I drive 9 miles of gravel every day at a minimum) and mine ripped exactly the same way. I suspect that we catch something on it or possibly the gravel just wears it thin. I wonder if anyone makes a hard plastic version rather than the felt? I'm not sure what the reason for felt would be other than that it does allow things to drain through it I guess.
