Ford Option + Title

Can anyone share what they know?

I purchased my Mach E via the Ford Option. After two and half months, I just realized I still have not receive my car title.
Ford Option is NOT a lease, so I should get the title sent to me with a lien on it, correct?

Can someone who is on Ford Option share what they know? Thanks!

I’m not sure if it’s different where you are, but I don’t believe you receive the title until your loan is paid off.

Correct. You get the registration, which shows the lienholder, but you don't get title until it's paid off. I bought my GT with Options (to get the rebate) and then paid it off quickly. I didn't get the title until after is paid off the loan.

It depends on the state. I’m in Illinois and we get a title regardless whether there’s a lien, but the lien holder is listed on the title.

Actually, it depends on the state. In Michigan, you get a paper title with the lien on it. When paid off, you get a letter releasing it. I have my 2013 F-150's title, with the lien, and Ford Credit's letter and contract stamped Paid in Full. I got the same for my 2021 Mach-E, and just sold it, handing them the title we signed, and I just got the letter from Ford.

Some states have electronic titles now.

CA used to send a title, but they don’t any more, just the registration Noting owner and lein holder. I guess it’s a cost-cutting measure from the much-loved CA DMV. ??

If you Google electronic titles, you see that California is one of the states.

I'm from Chicago also, I have purchased many new cars- I have only received the tittle once the loan was paid off. The lien holder is on the tittle and comes with a release letter. Sorry just curious.

Interesting. I’ve only purchased one vehicle with a lien on it in the state. We’ll see what happens with this one. I plan to pay off the options as soon as I get paperwork.

The information provided above starting to become uncleared. I finally called the dealer where I bought the car in CA. They informed me, yes, since I didn't paid off the car, the title is with Ford currently.
