My wife and I just completed our first long-distance round trip from south-central California (Fresno) to Seattle, WA, approximately 1900 miles. I’m pleased to report that our Premium AWD was a joy with a minor hick-up and some predictably dicey charging experiences. When we left our garage we had an expected range of 284 miles on a full charge.
The worst charging experiences were with EVgo. Our first EVgo’s two rapid chargers didn’t work (no shade, 101º) and couldn’t be reset successfully by the service rep on the other end of the line. We got disconnected while that person searched for a nearby alternative (the alternate that I’d plotted out was at a rest stop that happened to be closed at the time). The second EVgo rep we called routed us to two other locations, the closest being another EVgo facility at a restaurant location: one of those two stations stopped charging after a few minutes; the other would only charge at half-power. We skipped EVgo for the rest of the trip.
We also had a half-speed problem at a Charge-Point which couldn’t be resolved over-the-phone but, at least, we were rerouted to a functional C-P location nearby.
Electrify America was the consistently best experience although we ran into the half-power situation (started at full power but slowed down quickly) at a E-A location in Sacramento. Fortunately, that location had an alternative charger that worked at full power.
We were able to take advantage of free charging at a couple of our on-the-road lodgings. At one, we were able to use our adapter to charge successfully on our destination’s Tesla charger.
We had one weird glitch about which I’ve seen forum postings, the 3 warnings (tire pressure, seat belt, antilock brakes) and monitor re-set. We witnessed the monitor re-set while driving after the aforementioned Sacramento stop and saw the warnings in the FP app a few hours later after reaching home.
At one of the charging locations, another EV driver introduced us to the ABRP (A Better Routeplanner) app. It's a very helpful app with lots of glitches. I'm going to study the pdf tutorial about ABRP posted to this forum by timbop, thank you very much.
The car was very comfortable and just plain fun to drive. Very happy with our choice of cars. And the compliments and interest in the car never stop.
There was an unfortunate incident on the final leg of the trip, no fault of the car. Some debris was thrown at us by a construction-type truck which resulted in a dented frunk lid and a chipped and cracked windshield. Does that make us veteran road warriors?
