Getting information using order number

Is it possible to get any information about the status of your order using the order number? I placed my order on February 10th and all I have so far is the order number. No VIN. ?

Not until your car is scheduled for production. That’s when your VIN is assigned. No information is available until then.

Yeah. That's what I thought. The dealer keeps telling me that it will be in production soon. I found a vehicle that is a 98% match to the one I ordered on a dealer lot about 37 miles away. I am tempted to go after that one instead if it is really available.
