I think someone suggested having the option to choose. Optimum range, or actual range based on external factors. This seems sensible to me.
The GoM was always pretty accurate for me, and as I never reset it, the odd unpredictable journey where i may have driven differently or the weather was colder, didn't have a significant effect on the overall average it predicted.
You are absolutely right, you cant please everyone. There are many people who want to see the big range number that they were promised, but I'm not one of them. That's not reality, and I personally want a range I can rely on (within reason), which is what I had before.
It's not about range anxiety, I know what the car is capable of, it's just more about another negative update (in my opinion).
