Beginning research what to get next, so test drove 2025 GT (not with optional performance upgrade)

Currrently select AWD, new in 2023.

My impressions:
power - noticeable stop sign acceleration improvement.
highway acceleration not impressive, feels the same. disappointed overall.
ride - more noise in rear, maybe better ride quality...not huge
fancy stereo - better bass, overall, not worth the upgrade , if it was an option
seats - oh yeah, big uptick in comfort.
suede, or suede like bolster material is attractive.
doors - nice touch suede vs vinyl
glass roof - not on my personal car, so this was new, and it gave a nice ambiance at times.
dont notice it much while enaged in driving. for $2k, pass (cdn prices)
handling - big upgrade over mine. steering in sharper corners was more stable, no sway, planted well.
magneride? thinking more the wheel/tire combo.

Would have to determine if the XTD range premium vs GT price gap was worth it.
Performance upgrade would have to be on the vehicle I purchased, as base GT isn't what you would hope.

Toyed with going back to Gas Mustang, but another 100km range would ease anxiety for the 1% of driving I do outside my standard range zone. Gas prices, having to use a gas station, oil changes.... I'm spoiled now.

What was the charge level and was the battery warmed up? It can make a difference in performance

Yes, 100% off the lot. checked unbridled and unbridled extended.
Overall the vehicle was nicer riding, cornering, interior, seating.
Impressive taking off. Just not wining a medal over standard AWD in passing.
The lower 0-100km/h acceleration is weighted at the takeoff. Do I like the low end - sure do, but really expected more once I was over 60km/h (40 mph).

Something's off. The standard range battery in the Select can't put out as much juice as the extended range battery, so the acceleration should be better regardless of speed whether it's a Premium with the large battery or a GT. Couple that with the revised rear motor that went online in 2024 and the car should be very different. If the car was in Unbridled Extend, that might explain it since Unbridled Extend limits power and kills regenerative braking. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ©

Yeah at 100% regen is off or squirrelly on my premium AWD ER. Coming from a 23 Select to a 24 or newer GT should have been night and day overall performance.

I test drove three models in 24 but not the Rally. Select felt heavy and SUV soccer Mom. The premium AWD had good power balance for me. But the 23 GT (non PE) I drove felt light and nimble if you can imagine a 5000 lb vehicle being nimble.

I think starting in 24 the Select AWD ER had the same hp as the Premium?

I just test drove a Rally last week. I started in engage and even there it had a lot more noticeable low end power than my Premium. Went to unbridled and it was pure joy. Low end meaning however they dial the accelerator pedal hp&torque from zero to 20 to 40 60 etc. A well controlled beast you can drive civilly but it's ready to go at any point on the speedometer if you need lol.

Fyi- Rally has the performance unlock standard.

Back in 24 the Select I tested only had 4 speakers so I couldn't consider it. B&O stereo isn't the greatest ever but it's really good when you dial it in to your preferences.

Been driving in my Premium in unbridled every since the Rally test drive dammit!

Don't use Unbridle Extend. That's intended for track use to post consistent lap times, but will actually limit peak power.

Now I'm curious about the 40 mph Plus zone. We have a couple highways that the entrance ramp is long but the merge lane is short. And they're elevated highways so you're not seeing the traffic as you come up the initial part of the entrance ramp.

My point being is I'm doing 50+ as I come up the ramp and depending on traffic I just stomp it and merge in.

Or if I'm on that same highway already and see someone on the ramp I can stomp it and make a giant merge gap for them behind me.

So I'm guessing you're weren't feeling any difference in the stomp at the higher speeds?

Now we know why you didn't like the acceleration above 40mph. Don't use unbridle extend. The GT non performance upgrade traps 107+ in the 1/4 mile. It has plenty of top end. Your awd select will not trap over 100mph. There's quite a difference. Try it in the right mode.

"So I'm guessing you're weren't feeling any difference in the stomp at the higher speeds?"

Pretty much it. Accelerate to merge is really good. This is where city folk will feel the 'oomph', for their daily drive and my first impression starting out was "oh yeah :)" However once you are on the highway, passing is 'as good' as the AWD non-GT. Very much like what I have now. Most peoples experience highway driving is hit cruise and relax for the journey. I would have liked to feel the increased 'joy' passing, as I did at stoplights.

Wished I had a chance to try the performance option. They didn't have one, nor a rally to try.

The PU doesn't add much to the top end. It's mostly on the low end, from zero to about 35. Yes, it's a little punchier above that, but once in jail bar territory (72+) there's virtually no difference. šŸ¤”šŸ©

I test drove a '25 GT recently while I was waiting for service and currently have a '22 GT. I am not sure if it was my imagination, but I thought the '25 was not quite as fast acceleration (in Unbridled). I certainly did not see a case for me to trade in. But, I prefer to buy a vehicle and run it for 10 years or longer.

The main reason I got out of my '21 GT-PE and into a '24 GT was the removal of the 5 second limit. The limiter inhibits roughly 40% of the car's power when it's fully kicked in. The 360 cameras were a nice bonus though. Something Ford screwed up by not even allowing them to be optioned on at extra cost for the 2021s with the metal roof. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ©

The Unbridled Extend is definitely the culprit here. Try it again, but don’t select unbridled extend. Just use regular unbridled. Also, no question the Performance package adds a lot of performance. Feels like a different car. WRT the handling in corners, that is absolutely because of magneride. This is the best handling EV I’ve ever driven (whether owned or test driven), which includes Tesla Model 3 Highland LR AWD, 2020 Tesla Model Y LR AWD, Hyundai Ionia 5 Limited AWD, Kia EV6 GT Line, BMW i4 X40, Kia EV9 GT-Line. I haven’t driven the Model Y performance, but do know that it is way more bumpy on any kind of road surface imperfections than the GT with Magneride.

Glass roof is amazing for rear seat passengers. Front seat passengers hardly notice it.

Our 23 GT was quick to 80mph but then tapered power off somewhat. Our 5.0 Mustang GT would usually catch it and pass by about the same time and would out run it there to higher speeds. At least as high as I wanted to go. Our 2025 Premium, AWD extended range is a nice compromise and got us a range boost and is a nicer ride, less harsh than the MME GT (non magnaride)
