The GTPE has track mode "Unbridled Extend" ( I am a little unclear if the GT has track mode). This mode as described is suppose to allow more laps at the track by limiting energy consumption. So what does that mean? Lower acceleration? How does it use less energy?

Then also, if track mode uses less energy and therefore extends your range/time at the track, why wouldn't that some mode give you more range on the highway?

At a guess the extended track time could also just mean that the thermals are not great when pushing it and this helps mitigate that issue but limiting the go pedal. Allowing you to go a bit further on track before everything is cooked which is not really something you would get just cruising down the highway so won't really impact range.

To gauge how good the thermals are it would be interesting to see the results of just taking a premium and repeatedly launching it and see what happens, if you can't get that many runs in before things get toasty and everything has to be dialed back it would give a good indication of how much abuse the GTPE can take..

Don't forget regen creates a ton of heat as well. But I believe you are on the right track here. UBEX appears to allow for better thermal recovery time which translates to more laps at a reasonable pace.

Think qualify laps vs race laps.....

One way to achieve this is to utilize the friction brakes more and regen less. ?

I am no track master, but having had the pleasure of being driven around a few tracks while riding shot gun with a professional racing driver in various high performance road vehicles, when it comes to road tires unless you are on cup tires it doesn't really take long when pushing hard on summer performance tires for them to start getting toasty and loosing grip.

Factor in the heavy weight of the mach-e and it will probably take an even shorter time so chances are you could end up in the kitty litter due to lack of grip long before the battery thermals are even an issue.

In the interview with the Ford guy driving, he talked about taking the energy out of the battery being decreased, did not mention the regen braking (though I agree would make heat, just saying it wasn't mentioned)

The unbridled extend mode would not effect the tire temperature unless you are spinning less with limited power. You very well could be right but not sure how it applies to the track mode.

Battery thermals are always an issue. These cars spend their entire life managing the battery temps......even when not in use.
