Hi I’ve recently bought a Mach e AWD premium. It doesn’t have a hands free tailgate ( foot activated). Is this an option that can be retrofitted. Thanks for any help/advice.

There is an aftermarket version available at EV-Vida (https://ev-vida.store/products/mustang-mach-e-handsfree-liftgate-module?_pos=1&_sid=a99c95c80&_ss=r) I have bought one, but the install is pretty intense, so I haven't installed it yet.

The Mach-e Vlog folks filmed an install video:

I think the pandemic era supply chain issues made them dump it. I believe the '22 models were able to be retrofitted, since they had much of the hardware installed, but if your MME is '23 or newer, you have to go with the aftermarket one.

You didn’t mention what year Premium.
I have a ‘22 Premium that was built 12/21. It has the hands free controls built in but was not active. With a few changes using Forscan I was able to activate it.

That's good to know. I wasn't sure if it had it or not. There's a big sticker on the tailgate that has the little guy showing how to use hands free. I thought that was abit odd.

Look for a previous post on how to see if the hands free module is installed. There’s a way to look from under the rear.
I just went ahead and made the Forscan changes and the control for the automatic lift gate showed up on the screen and when I kicked it worked.

Ford deleted the pictogram with 2024 Job2 cars. They should have deleted it with the first cars that didn’t have the hardware (2022 Job2 IIRC). It’s caused a lot of confusion and impromptu Hokey-Pokey dances. ?‍♂?

That's hilarious ?. I was thinking the same thing when my wife and I were out there trying to get it to work. Looked like the Can Can.

Yes, probably one of the only advantages of having a 2021 build 1, is automatic parking control and foot kick hands-free tail gate opening!
The Semiconductor Chip shortage from the pandemic left Ford without the chips needed from 2022 build 2. But it also did wonders for used car prices! After that, Ford didn’t go back to add it to save money.
Other than that, we’re stuck with a lot of old modules like IPMA so no OTA updates for me since July 24. A BCM that Ford no longer has any available luckily dealer found one for me on a shelf at another dealer but took three months to get ir. Other than that driving my AWD / ER since new is great. Getting assistance from Ford BEV however has been a real amateur. ? show.
What a complete bunch of ?’s!

Your right about those used car prices during COVID (I swear if never hear that word again as long as I live, it will be too soon).

I almost MADE money on my 2019 Ford Ranger when I traded it in, back in the summer of 2022.

Traded for a new F150 XLT. There were 2 NEW trucks on the entire lot. Everything else was used cars.

Even the 2 new trucks were demos. Mine had about 200 miles on it when I purchased.

Crazy times.

I have a 2021 Mach e Premium (not AWD). Took delivery 2 Aug 21. It has the hands free tailgate, surprised your 2021 does not.

My 2025 MME in Premium trim has power liftgate but seems to lack hands free with a kick Capability. The screen doesn’t show a toggle off option so I’m guessing it’s not there. Does that sound right?

I have a 2021 Mach e Premium (not AWD). Took delivery 2 Aug 21. It has the hands free tailgate, surprised your 2021 does not.
If you bought from EV-VIDA, contact them, as long as your original is fully intact. I am exchanging my original version (splicing wires required) for one with the snap in electrical fitting. They are being great about it, even though I bought it 9 months ago, taking it back in exchange (and a little extra $$, as they are now more expensive with the easier install) for the upgraded version. Worth a try!
