So, the heater in the Smurfmobile is flaking out. It will shoot warm air if I keep it on recirculating cabin air with the fan set to 1 or 2, but outside those parameters it gets cold quickly. This has never been an issue before. It sounds like letting the dealership repair it is going to be over 2 grand, but the part can be had around $600. I’m not worried about the voltage of the system, and can spin wrenches. But before I dig into an issue like this I’d like to see pictures or video of someone doing one of these. Right now I’m not even sure how accessible the heater is.

Any ideas?

Just had the PTC heater replaced.

Cost over £2k.

fixed mine.

Not that straightforward.

Whilst the unit is accessible from underneath you really need to be EV trained and more importantly properly equipped with the insulated mats, gloves, tools etc as there are HV connections.

You also need to be able and equipped to bleed the cooling system afterwards.

My advice: pay the dealer to firstly properly diagnose the fault because there could be issues with diverter valve or other things and then make the repair for you.

Same story here, heater is going down the drain fast, with recycling air the one good solution to keep warm. While a forum is not representative, it seems like several owners are getting problems over time. I don’t know how long these things are meant to last, but surely more than a handful years, or?

Here's an old post (pre-2025 model like yours) that suggest it could be a diverter valve, heater core, or a different issue entirely. If it blasts hot air and then stops I'd almost consider doing an FDRS software update to make sure you're on the latest HVAC solution software. Would be a much cheaper first try. I'd at least pay for a dealer diagnostic before ripping out a component that may work fine.

I’d convinced myself it was a fault related to HVB SoC and the control systems because in the end the heater didn’t work unless HVB had more than 60% charge.

However, after a proper diagnosis the cause was put down to the PTC heater.

Once renewed the heater now blows hot air after about on minute driving and it now gets HOT.

I feel certain the heater never worked this well since new.

However, the need for a proper guided diagnosis is really important because diagnosis by substitution of parts is veeeeeeerrrrry expensive.
