A question for anyone in the Los Angeles area that has installed a home charger and has service through DWP. What was the process like for you? Did you opt for the TOU meter install or use your existing meters?

I went with a TOU plan, no separate meter. We have solar. Set vehicle to only charge during TOU off-peak. Since I registered car in my company's name, was not eligible for DWP rebate as it had to be registered in same name as power bill (I think that may have changed now).

Process was easy, installer got permit (required for TOU plan w DWP) city inspector drove by and never exited car for inspection. After his approval, they activated TOU plan. Start to finish ~ 7 days. I did have a very easy install. My charger is 12 inches from sub panel in my garage.

I have So Cal Edison, not DWP. They haven't been a problem. We have solar and were already on a TOU plan. I charge the car starting at 9pm and only when it's down to 20% state of charge. Qmerit did my install and while I think they were a little pricey, they did a great job. All done in a single day, city came out to inspect a week later.

Dealing with the charming people at AQMD to get the $250 rebate has not been fun. I didn't start to fill out the form which is poorly designed and coded, IMO, until after the install and one of the things they require is a photo of the back of the charger. Kinda hard to get since it's hardwired into the electrical and mounted on the wall. That struggle continues.
