Hi all,

I have a question regarding the charging option in the US based Mach E.
If I plan to order the car in the US and import it to Israel where we use the European fast charging standard, CCS2
I know there are adapters to use on a US based EV, CCS1 to CCS2 adapter.
Does the US based Mach E uses 3 phase AC charging (the component built into the car itself) so I can benefit from fast charging rate abroad?

In addition does anyone knows what is the internet connection type is in the US car, LTE (what bands for LTE so I can confirm the car can connect here in Israel)?

Thanks for any insight.

The Mach-E's built for North America do not include the 3-phase AC charger. It is only single phase.

Also, the connector is J1772 instead of IEC 62196 Type 2 ("Mennekes").

There may also be some differences in the headlights, taillights, and some other safety standard differences. I am not sure, though. It is probably a safer bet if you can import from Europe, if that is possible.

It is LTE. Specifically, AT&T for the US and Bell for Canada.

I believe both networks primarily operate on LTE bands 2, 4, 5, and 17. (I would speculate that one reason Ford would choose the combination of AT&T and Bell is to provide best roaming coverage for the vehicle's modem since people drive between the two countries.)

Thanks for the clarifications..
In Israel it is ok to import cars with US Standards as well (headlights, taillights etc.)
The only concern is indeed the connector type that will need the adapter to the euro standard and the fact that I will not be able to enjoy the full fast DC charging capability of the 3 phase.

LTE may be an issue as well, different bands in Israel, the only option I see is to use some kind of 4g external modem in the car to connect the car via WIFI of the external modem

The European version cost about 10k-15k more, I do need to consider it for the above reasons.

Cheers,

Yep, it will be a tough decision! It'd be best if Ford added the Mustang Mach-E to its Israeli vehicle lineup.

Just a quick clarification -- here you are stating "DC charging capability" but the vehicle's built-in charger that I was describing is only for AC.

When you charge the car via DC fast chargers, you are bypassing the vehicle's built-in charger and going a bit more directly to the vehicle battery pack.

I've no idea if there is a way to convert from your local infrastructure's CCS2 plugs to the North American vehicle's CCS1 receptacle.

Yes, I think WiFi would be your only option. Even if the RF bands were compatible, the vehicle doesn't have subscriptions to your telecom providers. I think you won't be able to use the cloud-connected remote access features through FordPass.

I suspect you also won't have maps or navigation (though you could use Android Auto or CarPlay for that). You won't have Sirius satellite radio, either.

I'm not even sure how well broadcast radio will work. Israel's spectrum for AM and FM broadcasting is the same as the US. But it looks like your channel spacing is different. In the US, I'm unaware of any FM stations on even multiples of 100 kHz, for instance, while it looks as though Israel uses both even and odd channels, suggesting that maybe the bandwidths are narrower.

How are you going to get service if your car needs it? The high voltage system is not supported by dealers who don't have the special training/equipment. I highly doubt you can connect a external modem for connectiviteit.
There are no official connectors wich you can use with a >115kW DC charger due to safety/Heat problems at these currents.

Local distributer of Ford in Israel may add the Mach E in a year or so, No Israeli car distributers push the EV market fast enough, very little options to choose from here

You are right about the Fast Charging , I don't know how will it be utilized, I see in the URL below a fellow that uses his US Tesla M3 in Europe only with CHAdeMO adapter, he can not use the EU superchargers.

https://medium.com/@marina.roganovi...ko adapter: You can get,you to charge at home.

Lots of things to be considered,
I'm not so worried about radio, I use Spotify (its been some years now that I don't listen to any radio stations :)

Maps as well, I'll be using Waze..

You are right about FordPass

Thanks,

In Israel the local distributer is obligated to give service to imported cars as well but I'm not sure about training and equipment if the car is not being distributed by Ford here in Israel

For example, some friend of mine imported Chevy Bolt from US, they get local Chevy support if needed
They charge with Type2 adapter at home (not sure what happens with fast charging though)

Since Israel is fairly small (top to bottom ~700 km) and our daily drive is of no more than 60-100km per day
Only long trips which are rare will have to consider fast charging..

Everything can be done, but it's not cheap.

The TCU module for connecting the car to FordPass can be replaced with a new one or, if you know, reset the modem so that it searches for a new GSM network.

As for the CCS2 (US) socket, you can change it to CCS2 (EU) but it requires recoding the modules, I'm currently doing it at home :)
