NOT necessary. I stopped buying screen protectors for iPads and iPhones years ago....
I was like you, for one phone. Then I realized the glass scratches from keys (in pocket) very easily, went back to screen protectors, actually I swap them for new ones every 6 months, costs me about $1 per month and every time I replace it, zero scratches when the old protector is removed.

Put me in the matt screen protector fan camp.

I had my car for a year before I put one on and I really like how it resists fingerprints. Before there would be smudges all over the screen that were not easy to get off. True, you can't see them when the screen is on. But off? Looked horrible. IMO. I highly recommend the matt screen protector if the smudges bother you. Less glare is also really nice.

Bringing this back up because I want to know if anyone has seen any wearing on their screen in the commonly pressed spots over the years. The one in my Clarity has spots where the sheen is different from wear. Thanks.
