Go for it! After having my Mach E for 6 months. All of the range anxiety and other feelings are gone. So we just got rid of the wife’s Durango got her in a Mach e as well. So far we’re loving it!
If all Durangos are like the ones I’ve ridden in, the bar was set pretty low. ?

Long story short: I ordered. White Premium ER AWD back in august, bought a canceled GT in September and the Premium arrived later this week.
My wife’s Subaru is apparently got about $15k of equity. Would it be asinine to have two BEVs?

I have had a Mach e for about a month now. I really like it, but my recommendation is have diversification. In the northwest anyway, only electric is risky. Power outages and weather changes resulting in change of plans is risky. A car with a full tank of gas is a huge benefit if things get wonky. But I really like the electric car from a fun position, I just don’t think they are always practical. Kind of a fun luxury.

Obviously it's working for enough people that there is little reason not too, except maybe if either of you have frequent long drives where you are unable to spend 30 min to an hour at at fast charge. Unfortunately, long is a lot shorter this time of year... If you both like the Mach E, it's not wrong at all.

Having two cars can certainly make it easier to not fight over who gets to drive a single one, although one is GT and one not...

Here's the thing, with an ICE vehicle, you pretty much know how much the car will be worth in 5 years based on condition and mileage. With BEVS, I think the tech is changing quickly enough so that in 5-6 years (avg car loan period), what we're driving now could be expensive paperweights. For example if there are major advances in batteries so that the standard range in 3-5 years goes from 250-300 to 500-600 (I don't think this out of the question, see Lucid), your dinosaur BEV will likely be worthless in the used car market regardless of mileage.

Sure, that's possible but... Here's the thing, past performance doesn't guarantee future performance. ICE could be obsolete vehicles that no one wants, gas stations could start going out of business because everyone wanting evs, basically making ANY ICE vehicles a dinosaur and worthless.

Personally, I don't look at vehicles as an investment. I plan to get 10-20 years out of it, and any value after that is a bonus.

True, but also, going back to OP's question, are you willing to double down on that and buy 2 BEVs now?

Given he's talking about having $15k equity in a current car, I'm assuming they are practical consumers, so just wanted to give some food for thought. I usually own cars for at least 6-8 years, but I always bank on having a decent trade in value at the end to get into a new one. With my current BEV, I've already accepted the fact that it won't have much value then, and maybe even need a $7k new battery installed. So, I guess I should consdier getting out of my current BEV within 3 years or so? I dunno.

Wanna bet?

With advancements in synthetic fuels like eFuel ICE isn't going anywhere anytime soon. EVs make up 2.2% of vehicles on the road and unless you plan on owning that ICE vehicle for 100+ years I think you're living a pipe dream.

There's absolutely no reason to hate on ICE vehicles or get rid of them. We should embrace all technologies and advancements to make ICE vehicles carbon neutral.

If power is out for a week, an ICE car not fully filled poses the same risk. And if the power is wide-spread (looking at you Texas) there's no need to go anywhere anyway, everything's closed.

It's much easier for me to charge my car with a storm brewing than for an ICE owner to run out to the gas station on the highway. I don't need to drive in the snow. And if I have solar... 'nuf said.

This old canard gets tossed up by non-believers all the time. It's rubbish.
It seems this comment implies that gas stations can't operate without power. I've seen this a few times on this forum, so I'll throw in my 2 cents :)
Since some major hurricanes in 2004, many state (federal?) laws require major gas stations and those on evacuation routes to have generator backup. Many others have it without being forced since it is a cheap way to not lose business.
https://www.abcactionnews.com/simplemost/how-do-gas-stations-pump-without-electricity.

Pumping some liquid doesn't take too much electricity and the gas/diesel to power the generator is right there. 1 gallon diesel poured into the generator can pump 5000-6000 gallons into fuel tanks (my guess from using water pumps).

Having a portable generator at home can also trickle charge the electric cars the same way.
So IMHO, such long power outage is less of a concern than winter range in really cold climates. If someone needs to make long distance trips in cold winters frequently, keeping an ICE or hybrid back-up car seems prudent.

Nah. She got hers in February. I loved it. Took me until late March to convince myself it was OK to do and then find one to purchase.
I didn’t really want black but it’s what I could find and decided it would be nice to do the his/hers same but opposite thing. Took me a couple months to add the striping, paint calipers, etc. Did my car as a practice vehicle and then did her car once I had things down.
What evse do you have? I have the MME and wifey has VW ID.4 and we have the clipper creek dual 50amp!

I would not want to bet either way, as I don't see either extreme likely, especially in 5 years. I do not hate on ICE vehicles, just stating that the resale values is unpredictable, and eFuel isn't cost competitive with gas until the price of gas doubles and at that price the price savings for using an EV is even greater savings.

Ignoring the whole climate change, if EVs didn't exist then eFuels would eventually make sense when it because cheaper to produce than to extract oil out of harder to reach deposits, but that would likely be well over 50+ years, maybe sooner as they get more efficient to make.

But you, assumedly, have a 67 convertible. So I am jealous right back. As far as the wife, yeah, mines better. I can’t even argue that one. ?
No assumedly, the ‘67 is still with me (call her my 3rd daughter). As far as the wife; you may be correct, but don’t plan on mentioning that to her ???

If you can handle it financially but I would not do it right now. I currently drive 2010 Prius and 2009 Honda CRV AWD. I ordered a MME ext batt AWD and will be giving up my Prius. I live in a rural part of Hawaii. I would like a F 150 Lightning in a few years. We need more charging stations!

IMO if you own a house you should have a pickup truck. I couldn't imagine trying to keep my house and yard going without one. Every vehicle I own has a unique purpose. It turns out I now have gas, diesel, and electric Fords. With the current energy policy it's probably smart to have your bases covered.
