GREAT suggestion.
I'll add an idea.
Maybe use reflective tape for the stripes. Any light nearby (passing car, etc.) should make it easier to see at night.

I wish the mobile app had something visible that said the car was locked. I did enable the horn to go off when walking away and the car locks itself in the car settings. Also the ford pass app does send you a notification on your car as you walk away - the notification shows up on your phones lock screen.

Was also thinking about this over the last couple of days.
Another way Ford could notify us of the car locking would be a phone and/or a watch vibration when the car is locked or unlocked..
Maybe 1 vibration for locked and 2 for unlocked.

PaaK notifications show up on my watch, which vibrates when the alert is received. But for some reason, I don't always get the lock notification even when the car locks after I walk away.

Interesting. I've only had my MME for a couple of weeks and only had PAAK setup for a few days. I don't remember getting PAAK notifications on my Apple Watch. I'll have to pay better attention.

Was going to say the same thing - but again, this is really an elegant solution. Well done!

I want to be able to look at my car and easily tell that it is locked. I can easily tell from the rear, or front, by looking at the mirrors. But when looking at the side of the car from a distance away, it is very difficult to tell if the mirrors are folded or not.

Is my car locked?

In that picture, the car is locked. But can you tell? I am not sure.

So I had an idea...

I thought about putting a pin stripe in the hidden part of the mirror that would only be visible when folded. But one would not be obvious enough, so I added two in parallel:

Super easy mod! So useful!

Damnit Mike, now I need to see if I can find IBSM tape ?

(Could be worse though - if I had a Shadow Black car, then what would I do??)

White stripes are perfect with Shadow Black. They disappear when driving anyway...

I have paak set up and when i walk away I get a message and a vibration on my phone (android) and my watch(samsung) so i'm always sure it's closed or not when i walk away. No message = not closed. This happens sometimes when returning to the car and reopening just after walking away without starting the car but not always.
Incase I'm out of sight of the car and I'm still having doubts I use ford pass pro app which actually does show the state of the doors but strangely enough doesn't support paak else i'd be using that instead of the regular Ford pass app.

I have a Garmin watch and it gets PaaK notifications from my Samsung phone as well. I used to use the Android widget, which was great for checking the status of the windows and doors, but I had to delete it in order to reactivate my Ford account.

By the way, I have been able to correlate the failure of PaaK to perform walk away lock with the opening and closing of the hatch. It does not happen every time, as you said, but I can almost be sure it will not automatically lock the car if I have used the hatch right before walking away. I wonder if that is what you are experiencing?

The hatch indeed seems to be one of the primary issues. Comming to think of it, about 2 weeks ago 2 jackets were stolen out of the back of my MME. My wife closed the car, walked away but 30 min later she realized that she had forgotten here phone. She went back to the car and openend the hatch as she thought the phone was in here jacket but turned out to be in the front of the car. The jackets were still in the back at that point but a day later they were gone. She thought the car closed automatically (she had the key with here) but I suspect it didn't as she openened the hatch first ?

I have a Home Assistant server running at home for my smart home. There’s a plug in that will show that status. If you’re a tech type person I highly recommend it.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Is my Mach-E locked??? My easy DIY mod that makes it obvious - yes, it is locked!!! 9C34E074-115E-4FE7-A2BC-1E9DE3B9967A

the honking doesn't do it for you? i always listen for the honk
My car doesn't always honk the horn and when it does it's not at a consistent time or distance. The stripe idea sounds good but it really infuriates me that I have to make a conscious effort to be sure the car locks, whether it's hitting the lock on the door, on the key fob or turning around to watch the car. It is just very inconvenient. I haven't owned a Ford since my first car, a 1969 Galaxie convertible which doesn't even have power locks lol. Ford doesn't have the walk away lock feature on any car? Is this new for them? My 2014 Cadillac has it and works EVERY time. I don't ever have to think about it. I haven't physically locked my car for 8 years. To be honest, I wouldn't have bought the car if I knew this, that is one of the options on the top of my list. Too late now, though, so I'll just continue to bitch about it until they fix it, I guess.
