Ford Mustang Mach E 98KwH RWD 2021
Curious if anyone else has had similar experiences:

On July 13, I took my 2021 Mustang Mach-E 98 kWh RWD to the dealer because the car would no longer charge at several different charging stations. The light at the charge port stays solid red and the dashboard shows a charging fault. On top of that, I also get some random error messages, such as “Service required soon” and even an “AWD powertrain system fault” — which is especially strange because my car is RWD.

According to the dealer, the on-board charger was broken and they wanted me to pay around €3,700 for the repair. When I asked whether they were absolutely sure this was the cause, they seemed surprised by the question, as they said they could simply read the fault from the diagnostic system. After some arguing with Ford, because in my opinion this should clearly fall under the warranty conditions, they eventually agreed with me after about a week and the on-board charger was replaced. Two weeks later, I was finally able to pick up the car again.

The car worked properly again — for exactly one whole week. Then, while charging, I got the exact same error messages again and the car stopped charging on AC. It can still DC fast charge, although not reliably. Naturally, this made me suspect there was another (or same) issue with the on-board charger.

I brought the car straight back to the dealer the next day. At the end of the day they called me and said the car was ready to be picked up: “We reset everything and it works again.” As you can imagine, I found that quite strange. And sure enough, as soon as I got home and tried to charge it, I got exactly the same faults again. I honestly have no idea how or what they are testing.

The following day, I brought the car back to the dealer again. Two days later I was told that additional parts now have to be ordered. This time they say it is not the on-board charger, but the cable between the charge port and the on-board charger — at least that is how it was explained to me. When I asked whether this was a common issue, I was told that on-board chargers are replaced quite regularly on the Mustang Mach-E, but that they had never seen this particular part fail before. That, of course, raised my eyebrows again.

Anyway, the parts were ordered with an estimated delivery time of 1.5 to 2 weeks, so they should have arrived this week, by August 20 at the latest. Today I was informed that the new expected delivery date is now September 25 (!).

There was no real explanation and very little understanding for the fact that I currently have a practically unusable car. DC fast charging only works about 50% of the time, so every trip now comes with the risk of ending up stranded somewhere far from home.

So, in summary: my Mustang has effectively been unable to charge properly since July 13, and the current estimated date for a possible solution is September 25.
I really hope these new parts actually solve the problem, but at this point I am starting to fear the worst.

What frustrates me just as much is the complete lack of support from both the dealer and Ford Netherlands in finding a temporary solution while I am stuck with a car I cannot reliably use. I am seriously considering trading the car in because I am pretty much done with this situation. The car simply does not feel reliable anymore. I have only owned it since January this year.

Apart from all these problems, I actually really like the car. It is very comfortable and enjoyable to drive. But when you cannot reliably charge an EV, that obviously becomes a pretty major problem.
