Looking forward to a Ford blowup robot that will drive the car automatically referencing a movie we all know.

I am hoping so. Fingers crossed.
No need, driverless cars have been around for years now racking up millions of miles.

You just can’t buy and drive one yet.

Since when is black (ice) real driving conditions? Additionally, ice is a physics problem not a driving problem. Your answer is that a computer will perform the same as a human when it loses physical contact with the road.
The answer is that the various car controllers will need to warn each other so that cars upstream start slowing down a mile ahead of the issue, and/or are warned away from that stretch of road. The human's role would be to endure the delay for the common good. In this sense, ice is solved not with physics but with cooperation, using an algorithm TBD.

Do current MME's have the right hardware or will this only be possible on future MME's?

No, Level 3 requires more hardware than we have. Future vehicles only.

With all of the advanced communication that steering, braking, motors, etc it has long been a hope of mine that at the 4-5 year mark cars could get a very major update adding what is needed for level 3 driving. It could cost several thousand $$$, and be worth it.

I’m surprised nobody else has posted this yet?
Jim Farley Autonomous Driving by 2026
I read the article. It does not say when released in 2026 model, it will be available over air to older model Mach E's. I have a 2022 Mach E. If the Level 3 is not available to older models, then their value will plummet further than it already has.
