Ford, and other companies, have eliminated spare tires for 3 reasons:

1) Cut weight of vehicle for better efficiency.
2) Save money by not including it.
3) Not losing a single sale because it doesn't exist.

It is NOT because "many people don't want a spare". That's not even on the list.
I'm going to counter #3.

I did not get the redesigned Ford Fusion Hybrid because there was no spare.

I will allow that the number of sales is small enough that they are ahead on #1 and #2, but that number is not zero.

I was seriously considering a Kia Niro over a Kia EV6 as there was a way to get a spare tire kit for the Niro.

Finally, when my wife was looking for a new car, the Ford Focus was eliminated due to no spare, and no way to get one. (There were other issues, but that was the final nail.)

Here’s the vertical mounting dimensions. At this point, I just plopped it into the back to see if the hatch would close. It does! And it disappears behind the headrest of the back seat.
I didn't think there was a chance it would fit in that direction. Does it fit if the floor is in place?

maybe? It’s so heavy and the floor is so unsupported in that “corner” that I didn’t try it. I also wanted it as low as possible so it wouldn’t block the view out the back.

My plan is to make a 4/5 floor out of some plywood that will help wedge it into the side. Haven’t got it all figured out yet, but I don’t want it moving around.
