My Premium 4x has a knock from the rear as well, exactly as described. I created a thread about it a week ago. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/knock-from-rear-end-at-low-speeds-in-1pd.43125/
Glad that mine isn't the only one. As others have mentioned, I started noticing it when the temps got cold.
This is in response to a few posts on this issue today. I brought the vehicle in recently on a cold day and I was able to reproduce the sound. Was told thrust washers require replacement. Parts are on order. There is an apparent TSB on this but I could not locate. I will update my post once I bring the Mach E back in after parts come in. Only difficulty is I won’t know for sure if the problem is gone unless it’s very cold outside.

Thrust washers, eh? Never heard of those. Please, do update us. If there's a TSB, someone here must be familiar with it, I'd think.

My dealer referred to some washers, thrust wasn’t the name they used but had come across it on other vehicles. Not sure if the wheel bearing had to be changed at same time but that’s what cured mine.

I think I had this, rear wheel bearings changed under warranty cured it, whether it was the wheel bearings that were faulty or just the disturbance or reseating of something cured it - driveshaft splines, hub nut security or something else - I can’t be sure.
Thanks for sharing.

$35 part from Ford. It makes sense based upon the needed washing of thrust. It’s what separates us from those dirty ICER’s that don’t wash their thrust.

The part is cheap, and I’ll probably be told the same thing when I take my car in next month for its 2 year anniversary. Too replace the washer they need to pull the axles out. I expect wheel bearings as well when they do mine.

By way of update - thrust washers were installed and I don't hear the sound anymore. Mind you, it has been mild lately, so waiting for another cold day to be certain. It was a big job. Had to leave the car all day. Axles removed, etc.

Mine has continued through near 80 degree days. Pretty sure I’m thrusted out. Car goes in tomorrow.

Since the temps have recently dropped into the 30s and 40s, I've noticed a return of the "knock" from the rear. Happens whenever I accelerate, even under normal conditions. I find it odd that it only happens, or is only noticeable, when the outside temps are low(er).

What do you mean, never heard of thrust washers, they’ve been fitted to cars for over a hundred years🤷🏼‍♂️

I had the creaking sound and then thumping in the rear on acceleration. Looks like it is going to be a half shaft.
