2022 Select RWD SR, 17k miles. Just recently noticed a leak under the passenger front tire. Pulled the tire today and it appears the leak is coming from the shock area.

Anyone else seen this? I assume it would be covered under warranty? Trying to get all the info I can before heading into the dealership.

I tried searching the forums and didn't find anything similar, but apologize if it's already here.

Location of leak on the floor. Definitely a grease/oil of some sort, not AC condensor runoff.

Seems to be originating just above the bottom of the spring. Fluid present on last coil and running down backside of the (shock? strut?)

I don't see any leaking around the brake lines.

I believe the shocks definitely contain some sort of oil like fluid. Those are sealed during manufacture so probably a flaw in that one. Should most definitely be covered under warranty.

If it is a leaky shock, this may very well be something your dealer can fix without needing to wait for the illusory "EV technician" to appear ("sometime next week; just leave it and we'll call when it is ready"). ;)

Yeah I would have the dealer look at that for warranty replacement, agree it looks like a leaking shock. I assume you haven't been driving through any oily substances and the other wheels look normal.

Good reason to invest in new aftermarket shocks all around and get ride of the cheap OEM shocks.

I had one of the front shocks replaced under warranty at about 20k miles on my 22 AWD ER. I didn’t notice any leaking, but there was a strange reverberation in the floor after hitting bumps. The new shock seems to have fixed it.

Thanks everyone for the info. I haven’t had any strange noises or anything, and I checked the other wheels and there’s no substance. It’s been there for at least two weeks (at first I thought it was just condensation until I noticed it wasn’t evaporating), so I don’t believe it’s anything I drove through. All good things to consider, I appreciate it.

Never had a complaint about the ride, so I prob wouldn’t upgrade the shocks until they actually wear out.

I called up my dealer, they are picking up the car Wed morning and expect to have it repaired and back Wed evening. Fingers crossed it’s that easy…

I’ve done shocks on older trucks with leaf springs, but since it’s under warranty I am not interested in compressing the spring and doing it myself.

Had the front passenger strut replaced under warranty. Chapman Ford in Scottsdale picked up the car last week and did an inspection to confirm the leak, but had to order the part, so they returned it same day. Today they picked it up, performed the replacement, and had it back in my hands within 5 hours. Greatly appreciated the service!

In case anyone has the same issue, it's a known TSB from Ford: TSB 22-7033, but the MachE wasn't listed as affected. https://www.tsbsearch.com/Ford/22-7033

Warranty coverage is for "Leaking struts with oil or oily residue on greater than 1/3 the length of the strut body that should be replaced. (warrantable)"

So if you are seeing a leak, you might need to wait until it's 1/3 covered before calling in the warranty repair.
