Thot I had this figured out. [Android Auto Samsung Gal 23 ultra 2021 LR AWD] While driving, I get a notification for a text - "bwong" - screen changes & I can listen if I want.
Fine. all good.

Then, out of nowhere, I get a BWOOONNNGGG!!!! sound. deafening. scares me. no further information. it's the "something happened" notification. maybe I got an email. maybe someone is at my front door. maybe a spam went direct toVM. not a clue.
In the past when this happened, the indicator around the volume would show up - near max, and if I hurried, I could turn it down & it would stop the blood from running out of my ears. But now, that "save" is no longer available. no volume indicator & If I make a dive for the volume knob, totally disregarding driving for a while, I only succeed in turning down the music volume. (That fix originally came from this board btw, and worked for several months or more - thanks!)

I have resisted Updating my Samsung phone to version 7 cuz, who knows, could lock me out of the car or turn off my wifi....lose all my contacts.... So I suspect a FORD OTA update may have added this feature back after I was able to suppress it. Maybe the same one that made the rear hatch open when the passenger door is opened. (OK. that only happened once....so far).

I've checked my phone volume settings. nothing is set at 66 out of 10.
Looked through the car manual:
looked up "Notifications". "Would you like to check your tire pressure? would you like to buy another car?"
I get frustrated with Artificial Intelligence pretty fast.

So any Real Intelligence out there with some insight? I obviously don't have enough.....

TIA.

Are you saying you don't want notifications, or you want to turn down the volume?

If it's the latter, the easiest way to turn down the notification volume (same used for use when navigating) would be, next time you drive, use Google maps, Waze, etc. to set a destination...

As soon as you start navigating and getting the voice directions, reach over and turn down the volume....you can only do it while it's talking, so maybe get a hand over there on the knob and get ready to turn it down...

If I am using Android Auto and I get a text message, I also get a loud bong noise. I leave the sound off for navigation, so maybe I will turn on the sound and adjust the volume during navigation, hopefully that will reduce that loud bong. I had not connected the navigation volume with that bong, but it would make sense that they be the same volume control.

I know exactly what you're talking about, hah. I could never figure out what notification was giving me the horrid sound, but what I did was made a "Driving" mode so that it suppressed all notifications except for favorite people in contacts. The mode would automatically turn on when it connected to the car Bluetooth. That helped quite a bit and haven't had it come back since.

hmm.

good point. I had focussed on turning it down, but since it is just an un-attached nuisance, getting rid of it - with no side affects - would be a great solution.

I have the voice in the NAV turned off (how could you stand to listen to THAT?! Back out of the driveway & then turn left in 4 feet. proceed straight. now proceed straight . continue going straight until you reach the store that you drive to every single day. stop........) So I'll enable that & see if I can mitigate things some.

Thanks!

The only sound that still gets me, and the one that sounds horrendous no matter how much I lower the volume, is that damn Approaching a Railroad Crossing alert sound in Waze....

If it's the same annoying notification sound I'm thinking of it's the bluetooth notification. Is it a loud annoying tone that plays even if AA has already played your phone's notification sound or if it plays for some other notification that AA doesn't normally play a sound for (i.e. email or some random app)?

It drove me crazy and it took me a long time to figure out what it is, I don't know how it's not a much more common complaint.

Here's what I did to turn it off. Turn off Android Auto or disconnect your phone from it. Connect to the phone via Bluetooth only and a new settings menu will appear, disable notification sounds, disconnect from Bluetooth and switch back to AA.
