Sorry if this question has been asked before but since we are building a "Police Use" Mach-E GT I wasn't sure. In our Mach-E GT the emergency/police lights and other equipment will run off the LVB. I was wondering how the LVB would charge when the vehicle is stationary/parked on traffic stops or on the occasion that the emergency lights and or other equipment are on for an extended period of time while the vehicle is parked. I am curious as how the LVB gets and stays charged? How does the Mach-E charging system work?

It works just like an alternator in an ICE car, it's called a DC/DC converter instead. You will want to leave the vehicle ON while the vehicle is parked so the charging voltage is maintained at 13+ volts. Just like a regular car do not use accessory mode for long because it can drain the battery. The only concern leaving the vehicle ON while parked would be the 30 minute automatic shutdown timer, but perhaps that will be automatically disabled on police-spec vehicles.

Ford designed the police-spec GT for those extra loads, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. The Mach-E won't shift from park unless the key fob is present in the vehicle, like other police-spec Ford vehicles, so it's safe to leave ON pretty much the whole time it's on duty.

Very interesting, I had no idea it charged the LVB like that. This all great information I am trying to be as informed as much as I can about this vehicle before we get it. I gain a little bit of knowledge about this car from this Forum daily. Thank you for responding and answering my question.

You're welcome, if you have any more technical questions about the Mach-E I'm the guy to ask.

Maybe figure how many watts that equipment draws on average? There is an interval charge active even when car is off which will give enough power to run some small loads and keep the LV charged over extended periods of off-time. It will trigger a warning code, but it is just a diagnostics code
