Just picked up a Model Y last week and realized why Tesla’s 360° view camera is so much worse compared to the Mach-E? You can hardly see the surroundings and displays the borders obscurely.
Now I finally understand why so many Teslas have curb rash and bumper scratches.

That really looks horrible 🫤
I kind of expected much more from Tesla!

Just one of the reasons I don't want a Tesla. Going for the blobby computer generated route for the sake of being different. Our drive entrance with stone pillars on each side is not much wider than your garage exit width.

I do like the dotted yellow lines on each side making a parallel point of reference. More 360 degree views should do this.

The Tesla doesn't have a 360º camera, just a computerized guess of the surroundings. Tesla didn't put the cameras in the correct places to do that. The cameras are aimed for Full Self Driving, so parking vision is a total compromise. For example, there is no front camera looking in front of the bumper, so that's a huge blind spot.

Makes sense from the pic above.

But then how does sentry mode work with a Tesla?

Our Tesla was a 2018 so it didn't even have an attempt at a 360 degree view. That looks just awful.

When we were looking for a new EV, a 360 degree Birds Eye view was first on our list of must haves. We love the Mach E's system.

And especially loved the forward movement version for speeds under 5mph!

Tesla chintzes out on their sensors, which also makes them unsafe for robotaxis. The number, different technologies and placements of sensors on the Waymo's Jaguars are in a whole different league.

I think that all of these systems do rely on a computer simulation from sensor/camera inputs, though. Until we all have drones tethered over our cars with actual 360 degree cameras😁 you just need to have enough cameras and put then in the right locations to generate an accurate image.
