Just purchased my 2025 Mach-E and am looking for some advice on how to properly put together a safe charging set up. For context, I am in an apartment building and we were lucky enough to have chargers installed throughout our parkade. Unfortunately, we are not directly beside one (its two stalls over) and they are 240V NEMA 6-50 outlets.

As we are not able to install permanent chargers, I will be using the Ford Mobile Charger that came with the vehicle. Due to distance from stall to outlet and the mobile charger being a NEMA 14-50, I will need to utilize some combination of extension cord and adapter. In order to minimize potential points of failure, I was going to go with the extension cord tagged below. This 6-50 adapter and 10 ft cord should give us the length but I am concerned about quality/safety?

The other option would be to go with a more reputable extension cord such as the A2Z below along with a shorter adapter. Unfortunately the Grizzl-e mini would not be long enough for us to charge and would still require an extension.

Thoughts?? Thank you in advance.

A lot of people are finding that mains side extension cords are not put together well enough for car charging duty. You are probably better off safety-wise in getting a charger that plugs directly into the 6-50R outlet and a J1772 extender. 🤔🐩

I personally purchased the J-1772 extension cord from A2Z and was very impressed with the quality and how thick it was.

If you decide to go the A2Z EV route using their AC extension cord. You can save 15% off and get free shipping. They will cover the duties right now as mentioned on their page.

Click the link to chose your below products and stack the temporary code "FLASHSALE" to save 15%.

In order to do this I would need some combination of adapter, charger, extension cord. For example:

- Grizzle NEMA 6-50 adapter -> Grizzle mini -> J1772 extension -> Car

- Tesla Mobile charger -> NACS extension cord -> J1772 Adapter -> Car

Is there cause for concern regarding the number of potential failure points with these options? Due to the charger being two stalls over we need to go with some kind of mobile charger that can be easily stored in our frunk/trunk.

Feel free to call or email A2Z EV and ask them your question about using the Grizzle mini (which is on their website as well) with the included adapter and their extension cord if that would be any cause for concern.

It sounds like you have assigned parking spaces. Might it be possible to swap spaces with the person who has the space close by the outlet? I would think the worst case outcome is they say “no”, and in rhat case, you just respond, “ok, I just thought I’d ask” and let it go at that.

I was considering the A2z J1772 extension until I found out they no longer supplied the bag with the extension and it was a tad shorter (16ft) than I needed. The main selling point for me was that it could also handle 48A.

I eventually purchased one from Inteset on Amazon that came in a 20ft length and was rated to handle 48A. It also came in a bag which has helped kept things tidy. This was highly recommended by some of the helpful members here. The cord is thick and does get a bit warm when charging at full 48A (though that happens on my Chargepoint cord even without an extension), but I always throttle my EVSE to 40A or lower to keep things cooler and give me a buffer.

In your case, if you're using the Ford mobile charger, you'd max out at 32A so either cable should be robust enough for your needs.

Inteset makes a 40A extension, which obviously would be cheaper too.

I have a J1776 extension. It works great, doesn’t get warm. I tried a heavy duty regular extension cord but it got warm so it got relegated to shop use.

I would consider getting a Tesla charge subscription and charging at the supercharger as needed.
