I see that Revel is opening another super hub in the NYC area with something like 30 DCFC’s. It definitely helps any city EV residents without garage parking (which is a majority).

I’d love to see more of these types of hubs being built outside the cities and along major routes. 2-3 stations at a rest stop isn’t cutting it when only 1 or 2 even function. Probably a pipe dream, but still.

Yea, definitely agree more of these type of installs should be planned.

However, something to keep in mind, is that its not just a matter of building out a hub facility and installing DCFCs.

Putting up 20-30 DCFC units in one place is like the equivalent of a small city in terms of the potential power it will require. The utility company infrastructure and local power grid will have to be ready to accept that kind of thing first. Historically, cities have not just popped up out of nowhere -- the electrical infrastructure was grown slowly over a period of several years as cities grew.

Metro-NYC is so large it could absorb that somewhat, but the major travel corridors not currently adjacent to cities are much harder to create a large charging oasis on short notice.

that’s a good point you raise, and thinking about it, both this one and the existing one in BK are very close to major substations for ConEd. I’m wondering if that played a role in location.

and yes, I’m sure a lot of the individuals charging here will be Ubers and other drivers for hire. But having lived in NYC/BK for a decade till recently, the more ICE vehicles off the roads there the better. Some of those crown vics are still chugging along.
