I just want to share my experience with my local Mustang club.

As someone who served several years in the Marines, I can equate this type of "better than you" mentality to some of the more ignorant people I had the displeasure of serving with. These ignorant fucks would take issue with anyone that served in any other branch (without fully comprehending that every person enlists in the military and the draft is over). These same half-brained idiots would take the same issue with Marines that went through a different boot camp. For fucks sake, grow up. It's not like you designed the engine/machine.

Am I reading into it too much?

tl;dr: Go have a good time and don't worry if a few haters hate. Show off that gorgeous car just like the rest of them will.

The email you got was a reasonable and common response. The guy was honest. The #notamustang crowd is definitely out there but lots of members will probably be fine with you being there and some will respect it for being part of the evolution of the Mustang.

I went to two events on the 15th & 16th. The first was a Mustang show

Lots of friendly folks. Most had never seen a Mach E in person. Some folks were giving serious thought to getting one.

The second was a performance car road rally.

I heard the same thing both times. I hung with a kid (part of the staff) driving a Grabber Blue GT 5.0 because I wanted to get pics of the two together. He was respectful but had the #notamustang attitude. He also didn't think he could ever get into a car without an engine and that great throaty roar.

However, at the end, we were all taking turns punching it through a tunnel on Skyline Drive (photo taken from over the mouth of the tunnel). After I'd taken my turn I pulled off in a nearby parking area and was punching in navigation for the route home. The kid with the GB GT5.0 pulled up next to me and said he watched when I took my turn through the tunnel. He was amazed at how it just WENT! and was so quiet. May have changed a mind that day.

I encourage everyone to take their Mach Es to Mustang events and show that:
  • There's room for another pony in the stable
  • The future is electric
  • One person decides if it's called a Mustang. His last name is Ford.

I’m personally not seeing any reason to be upset. The response was honest yet seemed respectful

I guess I was hoping for a little more acceptance from someone that is listed as one of their “chairman”. Really just wanting to show my son a positive experience hoping it’s something that he can get into

I mainly took issue with his personal response of not having a problem with the vehicle itself, but instead that it shared the name. Just seemed extremely petty to me. I’m already over it. :)

That's what #notamustang is all about. Some don't like that it's electric, some hate that it has four doors and a hatch.

I think you are reading way too much into it, especially with how you started off the conversation.

My family has a lot of Marines in it, so I say this with nothing but love... stop eating crayons and go out and enjoy your Mustang ?

That's why I don't like most car clubs - it's not about cars anymore. We all take pride in our cars and what we do to them. It doesn't matter what it looks like, how fast it goes, how much it costs, or what it is, fellow car enthusiast should just appreciate and welcome others.

The "I don't think it should have the Mustang name" comment shouldn't have been in there.

Perhaps he felt that your statement that you wanted to find out what his group's feelings were included his personal opinion. His opinion was stated pretty directly, but I didn't read any malice into it. He did invite you to come and gauge for yourself, so there is that.

Seems like a decent and fair response to me. Nothing to be angry about imo. You should go and check it out. You should do what Sergio did and load up the frunk with treats and allow the overwhelming love of the smurfs to win them over.

I actually thought his response was pretty genuine. You know, a lot of people are resistant to change at first, but later become the biggest proponents of that change. I’d go and let the car speak for itself. Be sure you put a bottle of V8 juice in the koi pond so you can honestly say you have a V8 under the hood ?

As someone who's dropping a lot on a loaded GTPE I also think it's kind of silly that they put this kinda crossover looking vehicle in the mustang brand. A 2 door electric coupe would have made more sense, but it's their name and their brand and Ford can do whatever they want with it. I don't buy cars for the badge, status, noise or fumes. I like to go fast and cart my shit around with me ?
