I don’t know that I had ever tested my car to see how far it drove on a charge. Now that Myles Stangish is a year old and has 33,000 miles, I thought I would give it a try. Can it meet its rated 320 mile range? Prior to this test I had thought the limit might be about 290 miles. Myles is a 2025 Premium, extended range, RWD Mach E.
The ‘guess-o-meter’ has a reputation for being loose with its figures. I think one reason it varies so much is people don’t always drive consistently. You might be on all local 2 lane roads and then need to take a road trip using interstate highways. The guesses will be off. Because they are tuned toward recent driving experiences.
For this test, I decided to just drive the car as I normally do with one exception. I decided to not exceed the speed limit on interstate highways. On two lane roads I drove as I normally do which is up to 5 mph over. Highway speed is one of the things that highly impacts range. No other changes though.
Charlotte does have a bit of traffic. So, there were stretches where I could not maintain the highway speed limit. But for the majority of my highway miles, I was driving at the speed limit.
I tried not to cheat on this test. For example, I did not disable my departure time settings. So, before leaving home and before leaving work, the car was running the air conditioning as it always does. I wanted the test to be as representative of daily life as it could. If the car can travel 320 miles with me driving within these parameters, I figured I could call that a success.
For a week prior to the test, I drove the car exactly the way I intended to drive it during the test. My drive to work is a mix of local roads and interstate. But it is mostly interstate. Here is the mix:
About 4 miles at 45 mph
About 18 miles at 70 mph on I-485
About 13 miles at 60 mph on I-85
I usually charge my car to 70%. Up until this week that would result in the guess-o-meter telling me I had about 225 miles of range. Now it said 236. This increase is solely due to me not exceeding the speed limit on the interstate for the prior week. In June I did a charge to 100% where the guess-o-meter read 325 miles. After charging Monday night, it now read 347.
I had charged from 5% and it took 8.5 hours. The car was originally rated to do a full charge in 9.6 hours. I’d say that was inline with specs.
I have a OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth adapter and I use Forscan Lite on my Android phone. This is where I got many of the readings included below.
Tuesday morning, I started out with 100% charge, 347 miles on the guess-o-meter and there was 86.37 kWh in the ‘battery to empty’ reading. My battery state of health read 98.5%.

Tuesday I drove 72.2 miles. The charge was at 80.5% at the end of the day and there were 274 miles remaining on the guess-o-meter. There was 68.46 kWh left in the battery. Miles driven so far plus the guess-o-meter reading was 346.2 miles. Not far from the original guess of 347 miles. 72.2 miles / 17.91 kWh used comes to 4.0 mi/kWh on this day.
Wednesday I drove 73.1 miles. At the end of the day the charge was 60%, the guess-o-meter read 204 miles and there was 51.17 kWh left in the battery. Total miles driven (145.3) plus the guess-o-meter reading was now 349.3 miles. Still close to the original guess. 73.1 miles / 17.29 kWh used comes to 4.22 mi/kWh for this day.
Thursday I drove 92.3 miles. Myles went to the detailer for his annual check-up. The charge was at 31.5%, the guess-o-meter read 106 miles and there was 28.03 kWh in the battery. Miles driven (237.6) + the guess-o-meter reading was 343.6. 92.3 miles / 23.14 kWh used comes to 3.98 mi/kWh for this day.
Friday I drove 82.6 miles. The extra miles were just trying to get the charge down to 5%. I stopped the test as soon as I hit 5%. The guess-o-meter read 18 miles remaining and there was 7.788 kWh left in the battery. Miles driven (320.2) + the guess-o-meter reading was 338.2. 82.6 miles / 20.242 kWh comes to 4.08 mi/kWh for this day.

I have never run the car completely out of charge. I did run it down to 2% once. So it can clearly go below 5%. And I feel that it probably would have gotten pretty close to that 338 mile total projection I saw on the last day.
For these four days, total energy used was 86.37 kWh – 7.788 kWh which comes to 78.582 kWh. 320.2 miles / 78.582 kWh is 4.07 mi/kWh. The mi/kWh reading from the trip odometer was 4.1. So, not far off.
The trip meter said 10% of the energy was for interior cooling. 5% was for exterior cooling. 4% was for accessories. These readings are pretty typical for me this time of year.
It is interesting that the miles driven plus the miles remaining from the guess-o-meter was always pretty consistent. I guess this means that if you always use roads having similar driving characteristics and drive in a consistent manner, your guess-o-meter will make better guesses.
My test can’t really be duplicated by everyone. They won’t be driving on my same roads. Changes in elevation here are pretty mild here. It was also a good time of year to do the test as the best mileage happens in warmer temperatures.
If I had 80 mph speed limits, I clearly would not get this range. It would be interesting to see if the miles used + the final guess-o-meter reading would total 320 miles but I’m guessing it would not. I think it would have a chance at 70 mph. 70 mph is what Out of Spec uses on their range tests.
It was nice to see a car driven in a real world fashion actually be able to beat its rated range. I feel that I got what I was promised with this car when it comes to range.
