Recently there was a discussion about the cost of building the NEVI charging sites, which I have not been able to find again. The YouTube channel "Plug & Play EV" has published several episodes giving updates on construction of the NEVI charging sites. They are part of his NEVI update series. Two recent ones are of interest given our previous discussion thread. "Update #2, Laggards and Leaders ......" covers the status of the NEVI awards with a convenient though incomplete map of states with and without awards. "Update #2.5, No, $5 billion was not spent....." discusses that the awards for new NEVI charging sites do not pay anything until the equipment is in the ground and working. He mentions some of the amounts awarded for various sites around the nation. Many of the award amounts are around $650,000 for the Federal share (80%) of the cost of construction. The awardees are responsible for the other 20% of the cost. Which if my math is corrects puts total construction cost for a standard NEVI charging station at around $812,000.
On another note, I just received notice from the Indiana DOT announcing they have released for public comment their 2024 update to the state NEVI implementation plan. The plan includes a time line for the recently announced NEVI awards made last month. They do not expect to actually sign contracts until later this year. Actual construction is not expect to start until the Second Quarter of 2025. Which is something of a bummer.
You might want to check in with your state DOT to see were they stand on updating their NEVI plans and actually implementing their plans.
