Hey all,

I figured I’d ask and get some feedback.

I’m currently looking to get another car and I’m stuck between a Rivian R1S and Cadillac Lyriq.

I know that they are complete different cars in a lot of ways, especially the price, but was curious if anyone has been in the same situation. And if so, which (if any) did you go with and why?

Thanks

Two years ago the Lyriq was still a disaster, ordering, getting it, software, name it. That suddenly changed mid 2024. The Lyriq is near luxury, while the MME is near sports car. Despite the Lyriq being larger on the outside, they are pretty similar inside for rear seat passengers. Cadillac provides better dealership support on the software, Ford has an easy to read but 500-page manual, which many dealerships lack a single person who has read the damn thing. Their general advice is to have the car towed in - even when there is a simple solution. I'm happy with my MME but if Ford doees not start having the Genius or Geek Squads available, and their software in order I wouldn't much recommend buying one. (if you are an iPhone Adept you'll do OK with an MME)

Thanks for the response. I currently have a GTPE so I'm familiar with all the issues you've mentioned. One of the reasons I'm contemplating getting into something new is all due to the software and lack of support. I'ts become really frustrating.

For me personally, I lean towards Rivian. No dealership nonsense (though that can present some issues on the service side). Apple approach to marrying hardware with software. The R1S is out of my price range so if I ever end up in a Rivian it will be the R2.

Hearing good things overall with GM's BEVs. They definitely get solid range though mostly through large batteries ($$) not efficiency (like Lucid).

Major bummer (for me) with both brands is the lack of Android Auto. I believe GM uses Android Automotive though.

You should definitely test drive both. Oh and I think GM has more physical buttons. Good luck!

Thanks for that. I have test driven the Lyriq, and testing the Rivian today. The Lyriq was a good comfortable drive, but the biggest worry is the tech. I’ve read a lot of stories about glitches. It does have CP/AA still so that’s good and the price is definitely much lower than the R1S.

If the two models you are considering have an enthusiast forum similar to this one, I would probably spend some time there to see what owners are saying. Journalist reviews are also a good resource.

I considered both in 23 and went with a Gen 1 R1S but sold it a year later for a Bronco.

I've test driven the Lyriq twice (23 Debut and 24 Sport 2 AWD) and various Rivians 5-6 times (First Mile, various events). They are very different vehicles. You need to test drive them. Gen1 is very much an off-roader like a cross between a Bronco and Grand Cherokee. The Lyriq is a wagon. It's low and drives like a car (smooth/quiet). Gen2 Rivians are pretty quiet but the Gen1 Rivians are noisy/loud like Mach-Es lol.

The Jeep Wagoneer S sounds like the perfect EV for me but given my experience with Stellantis products I'm not touching one until they completely redo their management/QC process.

Personally... you may hate this advice but I would pick a Cybertruck over the other two. I briefly owned one and vastly preferred it over the new Rivian/Bronco/Sequoia/GC I've owned.

If you want a traditional SUV/CUV... I'd pick a BMW iX over all of the above.

Thanks for the that. Never even considers the iX lol. Will look into that
