I would rather see an additional battery of say 20+kwh that is easily removable and could fit in the frunk or similar.
Bring it on trips where that extra range matters and leave it at home otherwise, maybe doubling as a house battery for peak cost hours.
That would be a really nice. The only reason I bought an extended range battery is for the few trips we make a year that makes it much less stressful to find a charger in some locations. The removing of the battery would save weight and get a bit better efficiency.

Except… A battery that can contain 20KWh would be nearly 200 pounds. Real fun and probably hazardous to disconnect/reconnect. 😰🐩

Good point! I didn't think to size it in weight. Yep, that is a no go!
