For those with the MX+ is it worth it?

I've got Windows and iOS machines, so should be able to use either without an issue. Just really curious if the MX+ capabilities are worth the additional cost since it allows for connections directly to your iPhone. I'm going to get one of the units to try to enable the handsfree liftgate on my 2022, but I can only imagine I'll fine more reasons to want more data and connection options in the future.

Can anyone with experience with both devices comment?

If you think you might want to use Carscanner with your phone, get the MX+. The EX is USB, so would just be used with a computer.

This is all it takes to enable? Guess I need to read up.

After using wired OBD tools for years, the wireless is so much nicer because you don't have to worry about your legs getting caught on cables. You also don't have to worry about putting strain on the USB port when maneuvering the laptop around in the car. I leave the MX+ in my car and use it with my iPhone any time I'm wondering about a specific parameter value while on the road.

If you just need to enable the handsfree and that's all you're going to use it then the EX makes the most sense. If you want to read parameters while going down the road on your phone then buy the MX+.

Thanks. Ended up getting the MX+ today and got the handsfree liftgate option enabled!

What other apps do you use specifically? Carscanner or anything else? And do you just leave it plugged in all the time?

I wonder if there's a way I can tie this data into Home Assistant....and the blackhole opens. :)

I primarily use FORScan on a small PC. The mobile version hasn't been updated to the latest core to support the Mach-E yet, so waiting on that. Right now I think Carscanner is the only iPhone app that supports Mach-E PIDs.

I do not leave the adapter plugged in all the time because I'm worried it could cause a 12V drain from keeping a CAN bus active.
