Hi Everyone,
My Mach E received an overnight software update last night (United Kingdom) which added battery preconditioning to the Navigation software. According to the notes, if a charger is identified in the trip itinerary, then the vehicle will start preconditioning the battery about 20 minutes before arrival. My update was useful as I was about 150 miles from home when the update took place. I tried adding a Tesla Supercharger but the system did not recognise the site I wanted to use. Fortunately, there are other chargers on the same site so I chose one of those. There is no notification (which would be very helpful) when driving to advise that preconditioning is taking place, but when I plugged into the Tesla V4 charger I immediately got 120kW rates, whereas during the weekend I have only ever got 70kW. Ambient temperature here being 6 degrees Celsius. All in all, I think it is a timely upgrade. All we need now is for "Everyone can use" Tesla Superchargers to be recognised as well.

Regards
John

Do we, in the UK, need an adapter to use a Tesla charger or is it CCS?

Download the Tesla App. The Version 4 Superchargers have contact-less payment but the Version 3 “usable by anyone” does not, so the App must be used to pay. Membership of £8.99 per month gives the same low rates as Tesla owners and can be cancelled and renewed at any time. I chose membership for the weekend trip which saved me quite a lot of money and will cancel before the next monthly payment.

Thanks again. I've only just received 6.8.0 after months of nothing. What's the latest you got?

And I thought we were all standard this side of the pond! What Connector do most of them have? Is it Tesla proprietary ? Is there an adaptor?

All Tesla chargers are CCS in the UK as are Tesla cars. The point being made was the open to all Tesla chargers that are v3 which aren’t contactless payment enabled SO you need to use the Tesla app or Tesla website to activate the charger

Is it only a handful of Tesla chargers that provide CCS connections.
No they are all CCS but only some can be used by non Tesla cars. See the Tesla app or website for which ones non Tesla owners can use

For what it’s worth I find the Tesla chargers generally less busy that for example Ionity, they are generally a fair bit cheaper per kWh but they have been way slower than Ionity, still fast enough but not exactly super fast

Just to make it clear to newcomers that a V4 charger with a longer cable usually means they are open to all manufacturers. The chargers are more of a monolithic structure with no space in the middle which helps to identify V4's.

Map here. https://supercharge.info/map

Hover over a red dot to see if V3 or V4 and open to other makes.

Edit: Wenklaw beat me to it but mine still a useful post. (I think?) :)

I use the Tesla app. As long as you register etc it knows you’re not a Tesla owner and only lists the ones non Tesla owners can use.
another tip to anyone thinking of using a V3, if it shows on the app as busy with only a few free, I wouldn’t bother as the Mach e due to charger port location will use 2 charging bays which won’t go down well with people!!!

Some more good info. :) I've never used the Tesla app so every day is a learning day.

Thanks for the link. Very useful when trying to determine if V3 or V4 chargers.

All Tesla chargers are CCS in the UK. Some early Tesla models have to use an adaptor to connect to the CCS plug.
