Keep having PAAK issues, sometimes rather benign, others not so much....

First off, usually takes multiple attempts standing right next to driver door for phone to be recognized, it is never recognized at any other door for unlocking purposes (have the update that was supposed to expand the footprint to all doors).

Second, at least every 3-5 weeks it will not work at all, most of the time it comes back on it's own with a phone cycle, but in the last six months had to fully reprogram our two phones at least once.

Yesterday, recognized the phone to unlock the doors but would not start the car. On top of that it would not accept my backup passcode to start. Tried multiple time to ensure I put in right password, locked for 5 minutes. Cycled phone to no avail, tried one more time with phone and still did not take phone or backup passcode. Luckily, based on posts here, I had invested in a faraday bag, otherwise would have been dead in the water away from home.

Today, figured I was going to have to do another full reprogram...phone worked as advertised and checked passcode without phone around, it worked too.

I know there are multiple posts about this but has the reason for spurious PAAK and backup code malfunctions ever been figured out. I would not be driving this thing around without the FOB and/or Faraday bag.

I have a 2021 Job 1 car (picked it up in May 2021) - adopted PAAK almost immediately, and despite occasional issues have not looked back. The only time I grab a fob is if it's going to the dealer or if I remember that I'll be doing valet (most of the time I don't think ahead and just use the valet code).

I have gotten used to sitting there punching the door button several times, sometimes, for it to pop - I'd say it's less that 5% of the time that it doesn't pop open on the first or second press. For the times it does not, usually grabbing the phone out of my pocket is enough to wake up the connection and the door pops.

Overall it has gotten better, for sure, from the early days - it's been quite awhile (months, maybe a year?) since I "had" to use either the door code panel OR the car passcode (to start the car once inside). That seemed to happen once every week or two (I'd have to punch in the door code THEN type in my passcode on the screen to start it up despite having my phone right there).

I don't bring the fob with me as the backups are there if I need them - and I really like not having to drag that fob with me (so much that when I drive another car I find it really annoying, lol).

PaaK issues are usually the result of connection issues, although the backup start code not functioning is puzzling. A lot of weird issues can be solved by disconnecting the 12V battery for 10 minutes and then reconnecting it. Have you tried that? ??

Have not tried resetting LVB. Does the passcode entry rely on a cell signal?

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

I’ve had the same thing happen twice in the last 3 months. PAAK would not open the door, and when I got inside, the car would not start (“no key detected”).But I never got to the point of using my backup code.

No, the passcode is local to the car only. I had one time where I didn’t have my phone on me and had the passcode not be requested. That’s the puzzling part to me. Since it’s local, networking should not be an issue, unless it’s an internal Ethernet or CANbus issue. ??

Same thing happed to me this week. We went out for ice cream, sitting in the car, it wouldn’t start. Got the no key detected message. Screen asked for passcode, that didn’t work, then the alarm and hazards went off! I tried for 20 minutes starting on the app but unable to drive. I called for a tow truck, he was on his way, I tried one more time, it finally worked. Called off the tow truck, went home feeling perplexed. Ford…what’s up?

My only anomaly I have with the phone as a key, which I’ve said before on here if I’ve got it in my right pocket, I’ve gotta use my right hand to open the car when I touch the buttons. It’s in my left pocket. I gotta use my left hand, it’s weird. And the only issue that has been kind of consistent and it may be a communication everything will open using the phone remotely. It’ll start the car, but the failure is always the front trunk. Once I start the car and shut the car back off that feature works again. Everything else works roll the windows down open the car lock the car Start the car open the rear trunk.
And I removed the phone as a key today because I just got the new iPhone 16 so I gotta set that back up tomorrow. I already removed it from the car the old phone that is.
