Hey all, I've entered into the IACSA (car audio) competition that is part of AXPONA (Audio Expo North America). This means parking my car in a convention center on a Thursday and taking it out the Sunday after. I've got a few questions about this-

  • Is there a way to disable the car from entering drive mode? The only way I know of is to plug in the charger, which I planned on doing using a 500w electrical drop. If there's a more robust solution would love to know - note I do need it to boot into accessories mode to play the radio.
  • If the car is in accessories mode but not plugged in, it pops up warnings every so often that it will shut down if you don't press OK. It also does this if it's fully on, though it does take longer. I've never been at a public charger long enough to get a warning like that and my home charging is from midnight to 6am so I've never been out there working on it while it's charging. Does anyone know if these warnings will pop up while on a standard outlet charge, and if so is there a way to suppress them?
  • 12v battery charging strategy - I'm assuming that if the car is plugged in using the Ford provided standard outlet -> CCS, that it will tend the 12v battery automatically. I also have a 25amp 12v battery charger that can do AGM that I'll bring with just in case. Just wanted confirmation that the car should keep the 12v battery supplied with power like it would while driving, while it is plugged into the wall and in accessories mode. It would be a bad idea to use the 12v charger and have the car plugged in as well right? The only reason I'd need to use the 12v charger is if something went really wrong right?

BTW consider this an invite to come visit and have a listen at AXPONA! I'll make a post with full details, but I'm in crunch mode for a few more weeks prepping. Once the work is done I'll share more, but here's a taste!

You should turn the car fully ON to provide 12V power, disable the auto shutdown timer in the settings menu, and remove all key fobs and PAAK from the vehicle. The gear shifter will be locked and will not shift into drive without a key fob or PAAK inside the car. Plugging the car in will provide a second safeguard against being driven.

Using accessory mode is not recommended because the DC/DC converter will shut off and the whole stereo will just run off and drain the 12V battery.

Yeah EV is a great platform for high power audio. The car will constantly charge the 12V in full ON (ready to drive) position. It's like running the engine in an ICE vehicle for the whole competition, but without the exhaust noise/smell. No need for a bunch of deep-cycle batteries hoping they last.
