Has anyone pulled a regular 16' boat and trailer. I inherited my parents boat but I live 500 miles away and not sure of the loss of range I would get. I have a little utility trailer I pull around and you would never know your pulling anything.

The Mach-E is not rated for towing. "16' boat and trailer" is pretty non-descriptive, but is very likely well beyond the ability of the Mach-E to tow. We had a 16' Robalo with trailer that was just under 3,000 pounds total. No way can a Mach-E tow that.

While it certainly has the power to pull it just fine, Mach-E can’t support much tongue weight before you risk bending or cracking the frame.

Better to rent a U-Haul truck or something to tow it with.

Not to mention even if it could, you can usually expect about half the rated range when towing with an EV. Even less so now that weather is getting colder. You would probably have to charge every 100 miles or so.

One more reason not to do it: I doubt your little utility trailer has electric brakes (and therefore suspect you don't have that wired up on the MME), but you'd definitely need them for the 16' boat trailer. As @E90alex says, better to rent a U-Haul to tow it.

EDIT: It has been pointed out to me that boat trailers of that size don't have electric brakes since they don't mix well with water. I'm told they have hydraulic brakes, though I've no idea how they work. Still, I think it is a bad idea to pull a large trailer with the Mach E as it isn't designed for it and lacks the features that make trailer pulling safer. But that's just me.

You’re probably looking at around 2000 pounds or more for a 16’ boat, that’s too much for the Mach-E.

Towing is not officially approved in the United States, but in reality the limit for the Mach-E would be around 1300 pounds or less.

The Mach E GT is tow rated for 1500Kg [3303 ibs] in Europe and 750Kg here in NZ. For some Ford reason the AWD non GT is tow rated for 1500Kg in NZ. Cheers Muz

And it's important to mention that towing speed is limited to 100 kph or less in most countries. In the USA, there is no towing speed limit, so people might be towing at 135 kph (85 mph), therefore the weight limits in the USA have to be less for safety.

Maximum tow speed in NZ is 90KPH, Europe varies from 80KPH to 130KPH, dependednt on the country and trailer weight. Heavy trucks with or without trailers in NZ are limited to 90KPH but many run at 100KPH which is the limit for all vehicles on most NZ open roads. There are a few highways with 110kph limit here.

Why 1300 lbs when the same vehicle in Europe is rated for 3300lbs?

Ratings are different. The USA tow rating is usually about half the European rating when vehicles exist in both markets. The 3300 lbs also only applies to the newer models, while older models have a limit of 2200 lbs.

There is also the issue of the hitch. Most of the hitches sold in the USA do not have a robust attachment to the frame and will end up bending it with heavy loads (search for bent hitch or frame posts). The European hitches are designed differently with additional reinforcements and doubler plates where they connect to the frame. This gives them much greater load capacity compared to USA hitches that simply bolt on the frame.

No trailer brakes for a 16ft boat. I have a 20ft Grady White, dual axle trailer, a few years old, no brakes. My friend had a 24ft, same, no brakes.

I’ll take your word for it - I’ve never pulled a boat

Borrow Aunt Betty's husbands truck. He hasn't driven it since the Clinton administration but he still gets the inspection done every year. He won't want to drive your "dern electric" car but he can take Aunt Bettys jalopy to Wally World on their next grub run.
