Hello everybody:

I took delivery of a 2025 Mach-E Premium in February(it was used with 3500 miles on it) and am loving it so far. I have two questions that I am sure someone can answer.
  1. The charging plate - this appears to be almost useless. Is that common? Is there a fix to it? I have used it a few times and adds about 1 percent to my phone's charge. I have a Iphone SE. I swear that one time it actually decreased.
  2. Ford's Charging Network. I generally charge my car at home with my own charger and have very little need to charge my car publiclly. However, after I signed up for the ford charging network I decided to check it out. While I was pleased with the overall ease of use, I was shocked that the cost was $43 to charge my battery from about 28% to 95% in about 45 minutes. I thought that was a little steep. So I have a question: does Ford tap on a charge over and above what the charging outfit charges? I used a charger at my local Walmart - I think it was an electrify america charger or something to that effect.
Any insight on these two items would be appreciated. Thanks

I can’t answer about the cost of public charging, because I don’t have my Mach-E yet! But I will say that the wireless charging pad is buggy. It works for some people, and it doesn’t work for other people. There’s a $100 accessory from Twraps that gives you MagSafe charging, and I’ve heard that works much better than the OEM wireless charger.

Ford Ppass charging doesn't add any fee, but importantly, it doesn't pass-thru any discounted rates available from charging networks, for those, you would need to charge via a subscription to their own network(s)

As for the Qi, note that AA or CP can eat up a charge as fast or faster than the oem Qi charger can give.
For me, I found that the USB-C plug in the glovebox puts out a decent hardwired charge to my galaxy.

You can use plugshare to compare costs of different providers. EA seems to run a bit on the high side unless you pay for a membership, in which case you would need to turn off plug and charge and pay using the EA app to get the membership discount (same story for Tesla superchargers). Also just fyi generally when road tripping it's more time efficient to stop at 80% due to much slower charge rate above 80.

Here is my question on the charger, and yeah probably being lazy by not checking. Does it charge faster if you remove the rubber mat? I also have a leather phone case, do you remove that? Thinking that the layer or rubber and leather would increase distance and slow it down. So on a roadtrip probably worth doing both?

not really an issue, on a road trip I would strongly urge you to have a high quality USB-C to USB-C cable, and plug into the center console port, strong chance you'll eat up juice faster than the factory Qi pad can replace it.

The twraps product does work very well. I’ve had it for two years and wish I bought it immediately.

The car charger is just garbage. Nothing you do is going to improve the performance.

I can't use the wireless charger as I have a Galaxy 25 ultra and its too wide. My wife has a flip 7 and she has to move the phone around to get it to charge. Her phone does over heat from time to time but she also has a ton of running apps in thr background killing her battery.

As for charging while on the road. I have most of the apps: PlugShare, Tesla, Electrify America, and Francis Energy. These apps will help with pricing and availability of charging. You can sign up for the memberships with Tesla, Electrify America, and Francis Energy. if you so chose to get a lower rate for charging. I would only recommend signing up if you travel often to make it worth the monthly fee for a membership.

Another thing I have learned while traveling is your cost per kwh is going to determine what time of day you charge and some stations kwh rate change based on how full the charging stations is. Peak hours are going to average around .52 to .56 per kwh while off peak can be between .42 to .48 per kwh. The rates could be higher or lower than I listed based on who owns the charging stations.

Thanks to all for replying.

The TWRAP product looks good, but I am not sure I want to invest $100 in it, though I have seen a few sell for less on ebay. I may just go with a wired approach.

When installing the Twarps pad, do you need to disconnect the factory Qi pad? If so, how...pull fuse? If not, well...that would seem weird.
