So I’m a long time mustang owner but new to EV’s. Bought a 23 Cal rt 1
Love the car and all
I drive 150 miles a day 4 days a week
My mileage is IRS compensated so I’m making great savings from my previous daily driver
I charge every night to 85% in my garage with the ford wall mounted charger (about 50kw every night)
Usually takes me down to 35% every day.
I have 16k miles on the car after 6 months ownership.
I’m watching the range slip by 20% these days
Even with preconditioning set up
Should I be concerned about that?

I suggest you charge up to 90% for the winter. I charge mine to 90 all the time as that is what the manual suggests

Just to be clear, you've set a departure time for each day, and you have it plugged in, correct?

If so, then use the heated seats and heated steering wheel, and keep the use of the heater to as minimal as possible, like set on 68 with one bar of fan speed. That will maximize range.

But yes, in winter, you're going to be 20 - 30%, or more if really, really cold, below summer.

Ok thanks for the info
I don’t use the cabin heat really that much
Just the seats mainly

do you know, is it worth warming up the garage before charging?

RickMachE: I have a ‘22 Select standard range RWD and I can’t find a setting for heated seats - the owners’ manual doesn’t help. Is it possible my car doesn’t have this feature? I know we bought the least expensive trim but surely the car has to have heated seats, right?

If you bought a base Select without the comfort/convenience package, it does not have heated seats.

Yikes! After 2 years of searching for a car to replace husband’s VERY old Audi Q6, we fell in love with the MME. Guess we should have researched EV’s more before buying our first one. Just figured a car at this price point had to have heated seats.

Luckily, we live in NC so winter temps aren’t generally awful (not like in the NE!) and we’re retired so we can generally pick and choose when we drive. But, geez, heated seats feel soooo good to a baby boomer like me.

Guess we’ll start to precondition the car - something new for us to do since we bought the car this past Spring - this will be our first Winter.

Preconditioning while the car is plugged in, at Level 2 (240V), helps quite a bit to preserve range because you will be using house electricity to precondition, preserving HV battery power for the road.

Thanks for looking after our range “but” I was more concerned about the warmth of our “butts” sitting on cold seats! I hope preconditioning will help us seasoned seniors be comfortable in our garaged MME when we head out on cold mornings without heated seats!

Well, all I can offer in your use case is an old and tried-and-true solution from the motorcycle world. I used this some decades ago and I will swear by it...

Sheepskin with the wool still on. New Zealand sheepskin seat covers, wool side up. It kept my butt warm on that motorcycle when I was a foolish young man who rode all during the Winter. Try it.

Good Luck!

If you remote start, or use a departure time while plugged in, the cabin will be all toasty.

And in early '23 (Feb '23) heated seats WERE NOT EVEN AVAILABLE on Select....that, I believe has changed
