Remote Start/Lock/Unlock only works on Bluetooth

Lately I have noticed the remote start feature within the FordPass app only works if I’m within 30 feet of the vehicle. If I’m further I get the message that it could take 30 seconds and then times out. And ideas why?

If you're within 30 ft of the vehicle and have PAAK setup, it's using bluetooth to communicate with the vehicle.

When you're further it's going to use the internet and your car's cellular modem likely has a poor connection. I've had that problem in the past, especially in my garage. I have poor cell reception in general around my house.

I’ve had it fail to start in many different locations where I’m fairly certain the cellular signal is strong.

Do lock and unlock commands have the same behavior? How long ago is the timestamp on the front page of the app?

If you're seeing regular failures over cellular, worth calling Guides to create a ticket to look into your VIN.

I had this issue a while ago where remote start from distance would not work. I simply did PAAK reset from the car display and no issues thenafter. Please give it a try if not done yet!

Would give Guides a call and report this, sounds like a problem with your modem and someone on the Ford end can look into it.

I agree with @Dhruval Shah that your PaaK is probably borked. Try resetting it and creating a new PaaK. ??

So same story today. Works on Bluetooth but not on cellular. I was on the phone with "Guides" and they went through the typical troubleshooting, update iOS, Toggle off/on connected vehicle features but still no luck.

I have noticed that if I try a remote start over cellular after I haven't recently left the vehicle and it's still "awake" it works. It seems the issue is more consistent when the vehicle goes to "sleep" and I try over cellular. Could there be something to this?

It's a software bug, mine has the same problem. The dealer replaced the TCU twice before Ford said it was software and they are working on a fix.

My company wifi blocks this function. So I just need to turn off wifi to get on cellular and it works. Hopefully this helps.
