The family and I decided to make a road trip to Reno for a few days. We just got back. This is my first long trip with my Mach-E and here are my observations:

  • It's a very comfortable ride for a long trip. No issues on comfort, size, driving, or charging.
  • If you stay at the Peppermill, like we did, you'll find L2 chargers on the 4th floor of the garage. They are free of charge and the electricity is free too. I didn't have a problem getting ICE'd, but I noticed several locals dropping off their plugins and picking them back up later, so the stations are busy during the day, but open at night.
  • I posted a thread about a navigation software bug regarding waypoints a few minutes ago. Basically the distance to destination freezes when you add a waypoint to your current route. I couldn't get this to resolve with a reset. Not a huge issue, but annoying when you want to add a rest stop or restaurant to your trip.
  • The range going to and from Reno were extremely under estimated by the computer. I got 30 miles more than expected going to Reno from Sacramento. And on the way back I got 50 miles more than expected. I was able to get 3.9 kw/hr round trip according to the trip computer. Goggle says that Reno is about 5000ft. higher than Sacramento.

Since you bring up range, Can you please share other relevant data? Which model MME you have? What speeds you were traveling at? I’m going to assume it was plenty warm in Reno in May, but temps could be important too.

Sure, I have the Premium, standard range, RWD. Temperatures in Reno were mid 50s in the mornings and getting into low 80s in the afternoon. Extra luggage in the back was at a minimum and my wife and kid don't weigh much. I'd say with everything put together it was +400lbs added to the vehicle. Average speed during most of the trip was right about 70mph I would say.

I made sure to regen by coasting and using the L to slow down my downhill speed every chance I could get, which was a big help and I am sure the computer was not able to anticipate that at the beginning of my trip. I was able to add +3 miles to my range during a long downhill coast at one point.
