That makes no since at all
When you setup your system the same as I did it started account at ChargePoint they asked me for my email address and looked at my account and they were able to tell exactly what size breaker I was using and the amps I have set for. So he said so in order to lower the setting you install down size breaker first then call ChargePoint and they see that on your account on their end then they will adjust amperage of your charger to match the size of breaker you installed. I am guessing this a safety measure to protect them. He said if don’t do it that way it will keep kicking out charger when you try to use it. I hope this makes sense to you.

I do not see how they can tell how much of a breaker is installed if that was the case you would not need to select it when first setup

That is incorrect. There is no need to change the breaker. You do need to tell the CPHF that it is a smaller breaker so that it will reduce the amperage draw.
How do I tell the CPHF that to use a smaller breaker amp draw? Is there a reset process I can on my account?

He read off exactly the way my system is setup. So some how their able to read the system on their end and make adjustments if needed

Lol, they are just looking up whatever breaker setting was entered when the unit was originally set up. It does not actively detect what size breaker you currently have installed (cool idea, but not technically possible). That's why you should check and verify visually. But if you want lower charging current you have to tell them your breaker is smaller than it actually is. So if you have a 50A breaker and want less current you should tell them it was replaced with a 40A breaker.

Yep.
Open your CP app, go into Settings and Remove from account. Then start the set up process again, that will allow you to select the breaker size. The car will draw 80% of whatever size breaker you select. If you select a 60A breaker, the car will attempt to draw 48A. If you select a 40A breaker when setting up the CPHF then the car will draw 32A. If you don't complete the set up process then I think it defaults to 16A. Pretty sure that is what the CPF50 units do and they are visually identical to the CPHF so they might have the same default settings.

I hope it is this easy. Yes I have a 60 amp which charges at 48 amps. Issue is my solar array when sunny our can not keep up with the draw so it draws some from the grid. I have no reason to charge that fast so turning it down will allow the meter to spin backwards when charging on sunny days

That's not exactly the way it went I told him that I had reduced the size of the breaker when I hadn't and need to reduce the amp and he came back and told me it was still showing 60 amp breaker on his end. ChargePoint is able to do remote diagnostics

Yep. It will work. Wish it was easier and quicker like JB, WB or FCC but that is how CP did it.

I had to change mine to 60A last weekend because I suddenly needed to make a road trip and was only at 70%. I charged for an hour at 48A and that gave me enough to work with.

Turned it down to 50 amp breaker. Perfect as it sunny out and meter is moving very slowly backwards. Thank you @SnBGC Planning to add another 12 panels next year with the 30% tax credit. With the additional panels I will be able to put it back up to 48amps on the 60 breaker and meter should spin backwards on sunny days charging

I am curious how many panels you have now? I am guessing you’re grid tied use net metering? What kw is your system

I added 12 panels after I got the car - from 20 to 32 which is max for my roof. It's a similar system with IQ7+ microinverters and seems to be sufficient for the house plus the car with 70 miles per day of commute. It might underproduce in Dec/Jan but other usage (AC, pool) will be lower. The 20 panels were more than enough for the house alone with credits in the summer being used up in the winter.

I agree it would be nice to be able to dynamically control draw to not exceed solar output but right now the cost of selling excess power and buying it back at night is very low. There are only a few line items of the bill that depend on total incoming power, the others are charged on the net usage.
