Hello,

Correct me if I’m wrong regarding the tri-coat - but if you touch up a stone chip, you’ll first have to use the base colour, then a second coat for the “pearl” and then top it off with clear coat?

Anyhow, I have Mach-e with the beautiful tri-coated Star White. It had a small chip on the trunk on the delivery and they used what I think just a regular white colour.

Now to my question: since it’s a “three-layer” process, do I just have to add the pearl/midlayer on the regular white they added to make it complete?

Hi Anton, while I don't have Star White myself, I do have a friend that has had one since March and she's gotten a few chips on the front end and hood. Her husband used the genuine Ford touch up paint and it matched really well to the point you have to look at it in a certain light to even see it. Even though your paint is a tri-coat, the touch up process is not. Now if you had to have an entire panel painted I would think they might use a process closer to how your car was originally painted.

Sounds to me you are right and the dealer used a regular white color to touch up your car. Your color code for Star White is AZ so order some touch up from your Ford dealer. They normally keep a good stock of touchup paints especially the more popular colors.

Thank you!
But what about buying the touch up from a where they blend colours and stuff? They should be able to blend the same colour, right?

And to the already repaired stone chip; now that we know they just painted with regular white, I’ll just have to add the midcoat (sparkling-thing) at the top of the current one?

The Star White touch up kit contains baselayer (colour), midcoat (sparkling/transparent) and a clearcoat.
