Had a 650 mile road trip.

On the way there, charged twice to 80% without issue using EA and Tesla.

Ran into an issue on the way back. First, it would charge fine to about 60-65% then cut down to 5kw. This happened at two different superchargers. Then on the 3rd supercharger, it would only do 5kw on 4 different stalls.

Update: Now I'm only getting 5kw at an EA as well. Started fine for about 5 mins at 145KW then derated to 5Kw. Switched chargers and same result.

It appears that I get full speed for 5-6 minutes then it derates to 5 kw. This is happening on EA and Tesla. Had two Tesla chargers start and stay at 5 kw.

It's 76° F and the handle isn't very warm. The charge port feels cool as well.

Update: Just got home and I'm charging at 9.6 kw on my Autel like normal.

Any ideas?

Anyone run into this?
I love to test this out but the Tesla OTA is stuck in my GT and I don't have the adapter yet ?

This may be caused by one of several things, but the first thing I'd rule out is dirty charge pins making a good connection difficult causing one of the pins to overheat - check the pins and clean. In a pinch, you can clean with a q-tip and a light solvent. Take care not to use a contact cleaner that leaves lubricant behind. The pins need to be clean and lubrication-free.

There have been cases where the plastic pin guide on the end has fallen off into the port causing the plug not to go all the way into the port, so also check for that.

Pins looked good when I checked, but I'll take another look at them. Thanks!

If the pins are clean and unobstructed, the next step would be to put a code reader on it and find out why it is kicking down to 5kw. If it isn't dirty pins, it's likely a trip to the dealer.

Thanks! What would I look for when using an ODB scanner?

I'm out of the bumper to bumper warranty and not sure if the charging system is included in the 5 & 8 year warranties.

You have a problem with the temperature sensors in your charge port. You have P0EE7 and P2E4F codes for both circuit open and short to ground. There could be a problem with the charge port, the wiring, or the SOBDM charger module. Because it can't read the charge port temps correctly, DC charge rate is limited to a safe low value. The charge port and SOBDM is covered under the 8yr/100k EV warranty, other components may not be. You should make an appointment with your dealer and start a case with the BEV team.

Well, the dealership cancelled my appointment. Here was their explanation:

Them - "We already have a Mach-E with the battery dropped that needs a new case. So, we don't have room to look at your car."

Me - "This is to diagnose the charge port errors."

Them - "Yeah, we need to drop the battery to do that, and we don't have room to have two Mach-E's with their batteries out."

Me - "Ummm.... Ok. I don't understand why you need to drop my battery to diagnose the charge port errors."

Them - "Sorry, don't know what else to tell you. You can try rescheduling in a month or so."

Am I dense or does this sound like they just don't want to look at my car?

Thanks!

That is so disappointing.
And is a perfect example of a Factory Authorized Service Center injuring the brand one customer at a time. :(
