Our local Tesla service center just received the new Highlander model 3 today. Took it for a demo drive. I must say for an EV sedan, it’s pretty awesome!

Lack of indicator stalks? For the UK this will be a dealbreaker for some as try watching the road around roundabouts whilst at the same time looking at the steering wheel to see where the indicator buttons are so the correct one can be pressed. In an accident the police will have a field day with "driving without due care and attention" prosecutions. Indicator stalks are intuitive. I can't imagine any driving schools in the UK using Tesla cars with this arrangement as most other cars on the market have stalks.

Tesla could at least have had the button for left indicator on the left of the wheel and the right button for right indicator on the right of the wheel instead of above and below each other on one side of the wheel. An own goal methinks.

I don't think I'll ever be able to buy a car without a gearshift and a dashboard. Without an indicator stalk perhaps I'd just stop using my turn indicators, I dunno. But I need to be able to see what's going on on the dashboard.

One thing super nice about the MachE is the Bluecruise/Lanekeeping status indicator right in front of your eyes, and the associated colour change which means you don't even need to focus your eyes on it to be aware of what it's doing.

I prefer a HUD, but could go without it. I’ve only been driving for 4 years so I feel like maybe that made it easier to adjust to not having stalks during the demo drive

I had a chance to test drive a Highland (immediately after a 24 Lyriq AWD - more on that in a different post)

You immediately notice the softer ride and lack of wind noise. The interior is close to a Mach-E with similar materials. I owned a 22 3 RWD and the ride was brutal. The new Highland is closer to a BMW i4 or Ioniq 5 (I’ve also owned both lol) in terms of ride quality. It’s not bouncy either.

The 360 Tesla vision feature worked pretty well even though I had serious doubts about

After, I drove my Premium AWD on the same roads and the wind noise was terrible. I need to get that mirror fix lol.

I don’t think it is worth for it for a Mach-E owner to switch. For a new buyer the price difference would probably sway a few.
