How rich do I need to be to criticize him?

How rich do I need to be to worship him?
You can criticize him all you want. I didn’t say you couldn’t or that you need to be any level of rich. I’m still gonna find it funny. I don’t know who you or anyone else on this board is, but safe to say you haven’t achieved even .01% of Musk’s business success. It just smells like envy.

No I didn’t miss it. And yes I still think you and others give him way too much credit.

Also, not sure why you said “passive investor.” You noted before it’s not what I said nor what anyone is suggesting.

He’s not Tony Stark, but yeah he is Columbus.

Columbus didn’t discover America. He found something that was already there, made a giant mess, took way too much credit, but it did lead to something amazing. And was a horrible person.

So when people seem to worship him, yeah, you’re going to get pushback.
Yeesh. Ok man. Hot take!

That’s cute, but no.

Notice how no one mentioned once anything about his money until you did?

Calling a spade a spade has nothing to do with money. But if his wealth somehow justifies your admiration, you do you.

I get it, it happens a lot on forums. When someone runs out of arguments they just attack the person disagreeing with them instead.

Sure, we all must dumb unsuccessful jealous people as you say. It’s the only reason why we would criticize Musk…. 😂

Not attacking you, friend. It sure looked like you were downplaying his success. Scoffing about how he didn’t actual “invent” stuff. I’m all about facts, so when I see silly arguments like that, I’m gonna engage.

Then you shifted to something about “morality” and weird Columbus comparisons. I’m not really interested in that stuff. Believe what you want! Peace be with you.

Meh. If all you chase is money and fame sure. I bet musk hasnt made .01% of the impact on his family, his friends and his local community that I have.

This thread is taking a weird turn, guys. And once again getting politicized. Can we please not get yet another thread locked? I don’t set the rules. We’re allowed to talk business decisions, I think.

Pedofiles arent political, they are dems, repubs, from the US and from abroad. We are allowed to mention horrible things people do. And if a powerful person tries to hide it they should be held accountable.

I don't know who deserves the credit, and selfishly I don't care. But pre-Starlink satellite internet?

I have been in IT since before dial-up.
I have suffered ALL the satellite solutions that have come along for both consumers and enterprise. As well as aviation, the industry I have worked in for the past 27 years.

Starlink changed everything.

Just one example:
That's a screenshot of one of the bosses in a video call from his IPhone pointing at a Starlink mini dish velcro'd in the canopy of an L39.

Exactly, you have to look past the person, agree, you cannot beat the technology of the products this person represents! Coming back to EV, Tesla model Y performance was on my list, but whether I’d like or dislike the person that represents the company is not a consideration. It’s more to do with the five hours round-trip for service the difference between the weather on the Gulf to the town where Tesla is right now, still without power and snowed in down south, give me a break! Use to not snow down here not like that. Has one company made other companies want to make their cars technologically better than they were? Nothing wrong with a little outside influence. For me just from seeing Tesla guys at the local charger sitting in their vehicles you can’t beat the minimal interior the high-tech. Could they be a little more friendly to other brands of vehicles wanting to charge at their station? yeah! My decision for a vehicle is going to be past experience with service availability of service and reputation.

Starlink is particularly useful for rural areas that have not yet been given fiber optic service through the various federal programs. People in our little slice of “Nowhere Hawaii” went from dial up or DirectTV Internet to fiber optic before Starlink was a thing, thanks to one of those programs. The downside for us is that our fiber optic is through Hawaiian Tel and that leaves much to be desired.

Starlink does have at least one serious issue though, the darkening of the sky for astronomers. The Maunakea visible spectrum telescopes need longer exposure times now, for example.

I’m as much of an Elon hater as anyone. But not everything he touches goes to crap or is bad.

Tesla and Musk's vision for a human-like robot is nuts. Neither dishwasher, laundry machines nor a heat pump look like a human doing the job. Ironing got solved by designing fabric for clothes that didn't need it. Nor a Tesla like a horse and buggy. Musk seems not to have asked what home tasks are limiting quality of life. We all could come up with lists.

Because the name popped up in one of the comments, I just had to post this. Cause the thread (about the Model S & X, remember those?) needs lightening up.

Not sure who you weee referring to talking about “dumb” arguments, not being successful and us just being jealous. Sure felt like insults directed at us.

Facts- he didn’t invent those things, yet people like you seem to give him full credit.

Heck, you even gave him credit for the Mach E!

The Columbus analogy was because people gave him credit for “discovering America.”

Just like people seem to worship Musk as if he invented the electric car.

He was a savvy active investor. He’s also made some VERY bad investment decisions. (Cybertruck, his obsession with the Mars, Solar City, Twitter, now these robots just to name a few).

You act like everything he touches is “gold,” but that is far from the truth. And don’t even get us started on him as a human…..

Talk about giving too much credit!

His cars have been notoriously at the bottom of the list of reliability since inception. Only in the last few years have they crept all the way up to “almost average” reliability.

He’s also got plenty of flops. And right now China seems to be leading the pack in the EV tech space, not Tesla.

Tesla did a good job with tech, but they can be “beaten” in many tech aspects.

That’s fine. I didn’t mean to give too much credit but comparing the Tesla to the Maki. I had I just think that the Tesla has more technology is All whether it’s more reliable I don’t know they all have their faults. I had my string hanging outside the door so I didn’t get locked out when I had my Mustang. Everybody’s got one opinions that is I just expressed mine. I’m not gonna argue about it. That’s fine no offense none taken. I’m going with a BMW next time whether they’ve got good or bad going on. I’m going with something that I can get worked on locally given somebody else a different chance to show me what they got.

So. Many. Strawmen. Literally not a single person here claimed that Elon “invented” anything. As I said, correctly, our MMEs would not exist without the strides made by Tesla. That is a fact. And nobody ever said Musk has a perfect record. Fun fact, most “successful” entrepreneurs failed in at least 90% of their endeavors. Musk is probably batting closer to 50/50. Which is frankly amazing.
