2025s winter has started as worst as it could’ve for my horse and I. Yesterday a private ambulance driver couldn’t wait a few meters more behind a lorry and decided to do a ā€œgood luck everybody elseā€ move and get in the oncoming traffic without even a small check beforehand…the problem? I was the oncoming traffic at that moment.

I had no chance to avoid him as I wasn’t even able to see him coming out from behind the lorry (at first I thought that maybe the door of the lorry had been the one that hit me). The MME took it like a champ, I only heard the big crash and quickly managed to stop the car outside of the road. I only realised the hit was massive when I was unable to open the door properly (I had to squeeze out). When I saw the lorry not stopping I’ve put my hands on my head thinking he didn’t notice thus ā€œgood luck finding himā€, but a quick glance to the field on my left and I saw the ambulance stopped in a fence and a person laying down in the rain on the field. That’s when I managed to put two and two together and I understood the gravity of the crash. As far as I understood the patient that was driven by the ambulance (fwiw they didn’t have any siren lights or horns on as they were bringing the lady back home) was half paralized (not by this accident) and she needed a quick drive back to the hospital for check-ups and the young and restless driver of the ambulance had no scratch whatsoever. God was with me as only 10cm were missing for a head on collision and He was with them as well as also only 10cm were missing for them to hit the tree directly. I’ll attach some pictures from the accident down below (obviously with number plates censored).

Going back to the title, my horsie has lost a leg and I’m afraid I’ll have to put it down :( I’m yet to obtain the technical inspection so the insurance company could determine if it’s worth repairing or should be considered totaled but tbh I’m not too keen on having it repaired…I trust my local dealership and service but I’m afraid nobody would manage to fix it back as it was before.

Besides venting my questions to you guys are:
1) Do you think it’s worth repairing or it’s possible they’ll declare it a total damage? At least to have an idea of what to expect on Thursday
2) If it will be considered a total damage I won’t expect to receive a lot of money for it as it was a 2021 Premium ER AWD with 45k km (27k miles) on it but still, I’ll have to get another car. I loved the Mach-E (my wife as well) and there are not a lot of things that bothered me but i would say the three major issues I had with it are: The abismal software update experience (basically non-existent), the harsh ride over bumps and bad tarmac and the range was from time to time a bit too small for me. For the software update I guess I’ll take a newer model, for the range I know the RWD ER will raise the range a bit but for the harsh ride I was thinking of getting a GT with Magneride. I didn’t have the occasion to test ride one but I heard they are night and day difference in ride quality and comfort, so my question to you guys is: Is that true? Is Magneride worth it?
3) In case I won’t go for another MME (God forbid) do you guys have other suggestions? Clearly I won’t go back from an electrical vehicle as I’m charging it for free at home. I’m an adept of getting a great deal on second hand cars so right now I’m even looking at an EQS 450+ but I’m open to any suggestion.

I’m glad that everyone involved is OK, and sorry for your crippled pony. It looks like it could have been much worse if just a bit more over.

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, this could’ve been a bad day for all of us to say the least…the speed was there, luckly the timing saved us.

I’m happy you are ok. I feel your frustration and I see you taking it in stride. Hope you’re back on the road soon.

If I were you, I’d try another car. Why not? Give another model a chance and enter your e-gmp era or BYD era. Come back to see us and let us know how it goes.

If you do repair the Pony, maybe think about the Rally Spring swap people talk about here. Folks report that it solves some of the ride issues. You can search the forum, but short story: if you’re going to need a suspension rebuild anyway, put in the aftermarket sway bars and rally springs.

I haven’t done the swap l because opportunity cost is a thing, but folks who do it seem to really enjoy it.

Wow. That tow job you got was pretty shitty. There’s no way your vehicle was secure enough for towing the way your rear wheel was harnessed. Emergency response across the board is posing a risk to the public instead of being helpful!

I’m sorry for your loss. It does look like the Mach-E took some serious damage even with this tinker toy of an ambulance.

Glad everyone is safe, unfortunately I think it will be written off as looks like the axle came out of the front motor (internal damage?). Good luck with whatever you decide on doing.

Good idea, I completely forgot about BYD, I’ll have to take a look. The main concern I have though is finding a service that is willing to work on those somewhat nearby…that’s why I went with the Ford in the first place and completely ignored the Teslas…that, and the looks šŸ˜†

I'm glad things turned out as well as they did, with no injuries requiring care.

I'm sorry for the loss of your ride, I know from experience how awful that is. This past June I was in a similar accident and my car ended up receiving a glancing blow on the left front corner and down the driver side. Yours definitely looks worse. Mine ended up costing USD$13K but it's like new and I'm very happy with the job a local Ford body shop did.

Good luck with your decision.

Indeed it doesn’t look safe but they did it like this only to get it back to my home (two streets away). When they delivered it to the dealership the next day they harnessed it properly for the long trip.

You should’ve seen how they towed it on a 4 hour long trip when the HVBJB issue popped up šŸ˜…

Got it. Probably okay for two streets. Hope you get a new one soon. All the best to you!!

Damn, i’m glad you’re okay as well…I’d say you were even more unlucky than me since it was a hit and run :( I didn’t manage to finish reading your thread but hopefully you didn’t have to come up with those 13k out of your pocket…right??
As far as I can see we mostly have the same zones impacted just that on my side they’ve been hit harder šŸ˜… if tomorrow they’ll say the repair will be even double the amount you had to pay on my side it will be considered a total damage (economically).

I paid nothing, other than the inconvenience of it all. I wasn't hurt, so got lucky there. They caught the other driver just down the road as that was as far as he could go with his own damaged car. He was drunk and they arrested him on the spot.

I'm in the middle of negotiations with the other driver's insurance company (at least he was insured!) to recover the 'diminished value' of my car. I don't know if you have a similar thing in the UK but if they total your car then that becomes moot. If not totalled and it's repaired like mine was, which seems unlikely given the extent of damage yours received, you might want to look into the car's after-repair disminished value.
