Hi all, would like some advice/thoughts regarding replacement of TPMS sensors today. It's getting exhausting after spending $167 with no resolution in sight. I drove for at least 30 miles home with majority on the highway from the tire shop but the TPMS fault light was still lit and pressures aren't being registered.

Since the car is supposed to auto-learn after sensors are installed and during driving, what could be erroneous here? I have a feeling that either: ALL sensors (coincidence?) are defective, incompatible, inactive or due to installer's fault? Was the installer supposed to do anything during installation, like "activating" it? Or is it essentially a plug-and-play device? I'm going back tomorrow so they can diagnose the issue with hopefully their TPMS tool.

I bought these from ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374382180049 ... maybe the price is a tell-tale sign? When i opened the package, i noticed that each sensor indicated "Made in China" and not "Made in UK" as the listing images show. (lol should i be worried?) It was enticing because it indicated "OEM" with the right part numbers for MME, listed as compatible with MME, and it was cheap.

BTW - Tire shop installed it for $20/tire plus $12/tire for "spin balancing" (didn't know this was a thing..).

Background: I bought wheels/tires from another MME owner that did not come with TPMS sensors so I had to replace new ones. I still have my original tires. I wonder if it at this point i should just ask someone to remove my original sensors and place into current tires.

TIA

Take it back to the tire shop, they should have a TPMS tool that can read the tire sensor and verify each one is working and transmitting a signal.

Did you verify the part number on the sensors you got was F2GZ-1A189-A?

My guess is knock-off sensors that aren’t the correct frequency.

@Mach-Lee , @Polar - So I went to tire shop to get it checked out this morning. while using their tool, all the sensors were on but one of them had a "low battery".. wth? I was told that because one of them was faulty, the other 3 still won't display its pressure reading on the screen. I find that hard to believe.

My options now are buy ONE of the reputable brands (Continental or Dorman?) from a source like RockAuto and replace that one defective sensor or buy all 4 and get them all replaced.

Do you guys have any advice on which ones to buy?

TIA.

Honestly - can you buy known good from the actual tire shop? Then it’s their dime when/if the sensor doesn’t work.

As far as I know all our sensors are completely independent, so one low should only effect that corner not the whole system

The sensors you bought were probably expired stock or "seconds". They might be 5+ years old so the batteries might not be in top shape. Or they could just be altogether counterfeit. You could have another one go bad in a year.

I would buy a set of 4 of these and have the shop replace them: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=10672240&jsn=497

Hopefully you learned why buying parts on eBay is a dice game.
