I live in a relatively dry area of California. Is there any advantage to leaving Traction Control on or off?

Leave it on. It’s part of the vehicle’s safety system.

So there is no down side to just leaving it on all the time? If that is true why do they give me a choice to turn it on and off?

There’s no down side.

Some people turn it off in icy and other slippery conditions.

I do not.

There’s no point in turning it off in normal driving. It’s there to save your butt in unexpected situations. The computer can react way faster and better than you can to keep the car under control and going where it’s supposed to. You know the reputation of Mustangs doing Mustang things and spinning out into the crowd? They turned off traction/stability control.

Some cars don’t even let you turn it off at all. But turning it off can help if it’s preventing you from intentionally doing something. Like if the traction controller is preventing you from powering out of a snow bank. Or if you’re on the track and want to intentionally make it slide/rotate more in the corners.

That isn't something you would turn off every time you drive, no matter where you live. You should leave it on all the time unless you have a very specific need to shut it off, such as being stuck in snow or mud.

Correct, there is no downside to leaving it on all the time. Even in 5" of snow, I don't turn it off. It assists me when the wheels are slipping.

As pointed out, it would be foolish to turn it off since it's a safety feature that prevents you from crashing. #MustangFail on social media is a result of people being stupid and turning it off.

I turn it off so it doesn’t pull power when I want to accelerate hard from a stop ( on up to about 20 or 25 mph). Traction control will keep you from getting 100% because it’s… you guessed it, controlling traction.

That's only true if the tires actually slip, in most cases they don't unless the road is wet. It's not something that's constantly slowing you down.
