I wanted to see how easy it was to charge at a Tesla Magic Dock using the Ford app. It worked pretty well! The Magic Dock appeared as an available charging station on the Ford Navigation screen. When I arrived there were 12 of 16 stations available. I could drive up to one and the charging cord easily reached the port on the car. However, at first I could not get the adapter to release. No matter what I did just the Tesla portion released. Finally one of the YouTube videos explained that I needed to push the button on the handle for 2 seconds, push up until I heard a click, and then pull down. Now the adapter was attached. The Ford Pass was able to activate the charger, and when I plugged it into the car it started charging right away! So far so good.
It was charging at 76 kW. I had set the session to charge to 80%. However, when it got to 80% the screen in the car got reset to charge to 100%. I was unable to stop the charging by any on-screen option. I got a notice that I could stop the session by unplugging the charger, which I did at 83% charge. So it was a successful charging session, but not perfect. I will try again with the Tesla App before leaving Phoenix.

No. The site showed up as usable for non-Teslas on the Tesla app when I checked from San Diego. When I got to Phoenix I was using the Ford navigation in the car and I searched for nearby chargers. Along with EVgo and EA the Tesla Magic Dock station showed up. When I got there the Ford navigation app put up a list of available chargers. I never did any special update, but I did receive a couple over the air updates recently.

Sorry for my ignorance? But what is a Tesla "Magic Dock"? Is that a station that has the adapters as part of the Tesla charger?

Yes, the adapters are built into the system. As I described above, if you simply pull the plug from the holder the adapter is left behind and a Tesla plug is available. If you push the button on the handle for a couple seconds and push up until you hear a click and then pull down, the adapter is released as part of the plug and you can use it in the Mach-E. According to a previous post there are about 51 Tesla Magic Dock stations scattered about the US.

Thank you.
Really need more fast charges options between Gilbert and San Diego, so will check out this option. Frequently the EA in Date Land and El Centro are really slow. Even slower in the summer. And have had issues with lines in Yuma. Cant wait to get my (free) adapter from Ford and have more options.

The Tesla app works at that site, I have used it. It is actually in Glendale, not Phoenix.
