To preface, yes I know that the vehicle will warm the battery in cold weather when plugged in on a L2. Current temps in my location are single-digit to high teens. I don't have any departures scheduled (and the functionality is broken with the latest app version - coincidence? ?)

For that reason, I left my car plugged in this weekend but noticed something I didn't see last winter. When refreshing the home screen in Fordpass (pull down on screen), the charging status will change from "Charging Complete" to "Preparing to Drive". If you look at the car and the EVSE, both are flashing indicating charge and the vehicle estimated range will go up as if the battery is being heated. After a period of time, the status will return to "Charging Complete." If I do a refresh at that time, nothing will change - but if I wait several hours it will appear to precondition again.

Has it always operated this way and I'm just noticing, or have they added on-demand preconditioning? This is something I definitely played around with on my Job 1.5 Mach E, but never noticed. My car is EA and running on 4.1.1 as of 20 Dec.

This is simply the warming of the battery, it is not preconditioning, and it's always been this. The message stays in FordPass long after the ~15 minute warming session is over.

Bummer. Was the battery warming cued by refreshing the screen before, or are you saying this is just a coincidence?

This is the way it’s always been. The battery will warm when it wants to. You refreshing the screen isn’t causing it. It’s just refreshing the screen so you can see that it’s happening.

You happened to be looking at the screen at the right time.
